After the explosive revelation at the end of last season, Heather Gay has her guard up. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, along with her castmates, were betrayed by newbie Monica Garcia. Monica was one part of Reality Von Tease; an Instagram account that used the ladies’ gossip against them.
So for Season 5 of the hit franchise, Heather didn’t want to take any chances with new cast members. This left one newbie feeling shut out in the cold…
Heather Gay is feeling once bitten, twice shy, after Monica Garcia’s Reality Von Tease reveal
In an interview with PEOPLE, the Bad Mormon author explained how last year’s drama carried over. When freshman housewife Bronwyn Newport inserted herself into a conflict between existing cast members, it put Heather on defense.
Admitting that they “got off on the wrong foot,” Heather explained her mindset on Bronwyn. “This is the type of energy that’s burned me in the past,” she noted in a confessional. “And I feel very wary of someone who has such strong, harsh opinions about people that they’re just meeting for the first time.”
Heather went on to explain, “I don’t think I’m a guarded person at all. I think that I came in with a bulldog mentality about protecting my friendships and protecting the sanctity of the bond we had. That’s why Bronwyn and I got off on the wrong foot.”
The former Mormon and mom of three girls feels just as protective of her “dearest friends” on the show. Especially after Monica betrayed them all.
“There was no way that any of us could pretend to be her friend after she had deceived us so intimately for so long,” Heather said of Monica. “She sat at our table, she cried with us, she laughed with us. We bought her gifts, we met her children. We had her into our homes and into our lives and we welcomed her. I had zero drama until Bermuda and there was no way forward.”
“Now I just breadcrumb,” she concluded. “I’m just breadcrumbing my love.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
