Dancing with the Stars Season 3, Episode 6 is the fan-favorite “Disney Night.” All of the songs are featured in Disney productions, making the night more magical than ever. Last time, contestants honored special people in their lives during the emotional “Dedication Night.” The competitors performed Contemporary, Argentine Tango, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, and Salsa routines. In the end, Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko were sent home.

Once again, there was a shake-up at the top of the leaderboard. Danny Amendola and Witney Carson, and Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson tied for the top spot with a score of 36 out of 40 points. Danny and Witney’s Contemporary was gorgeous, and the Viennese Waltz danced by Bachelor star Joey and Jenna was lovely. Pommel-horse hero Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold landed in third place with their Argentine Tango.

Plus, judge Derek Hough danced with his wife, Hayley Erbert Hough, for the first time in the ballroom since her life-threatening medical emergency. There wasn’t a dry eye in the ballroom after their emotional performance.

What happened in Dancing with the Stars, Season 33, Episode 6?

All the dancing duos celebrated “Disney Night” and embraced portraying Disney characters. Mandy Moore choreographed the dazzling opening number, Friend Like Me, from Aladdin. Michael James Scott, who portrays Genie in the musical on Broadway, also performed. Even DWTS hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough danced in the routine. It was amazing!

The couple who topped the leaderboard after the individual performances will be exempt from the dance-offs next week, and also get three bonus points added to next week’s score. Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong tied for the top with their Paso Doble. NFL legend Danny Amendola and his partner, Witney Carson, also received a score of 27 out of 30 for their Jazz number. However, since Chandler had the highest cumulative score for the season, she will be exempt from the dance-off.

In addition, the couples were divided into two teams for the team dance. While one team impressed, the other disappointed the judges.

Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy were eliminated in Dancing with the Stars Season 33, Episode 6!

Phaedra’s weaknesses were glaringly obvious this week. As her partner Val pointed out, she loses focus and forgets the steps easily. Their Jazz routine, set to Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, was sassy and entertaining.

Derek said, “That dance was devilishly delightful. The concept was complete. It felt like a Broadway show.” He added that Phaedra often looked to Val to see what she should do. Yikes! Meanwhile, Bruno Tonioli urged Phaedra to trust her partner. During rehearsals, Val was tough on Phaedra, and they butted heads a bit.

For the team dance, Val and Phaedra were on Team Roar. They danced to I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King. Once again, Phaedra hesitated, looking at others for her next move. Carrie Ann Inaba noted that the section where the celebrities danced alone wasn’t in sync. The team earned 24 out of 30 points. That left Phaedra and Val in a three-way tie at the bottom of the leaderboard with 48 out of 60.

After her elimination, Phaedra thanked Val. “Oh, Val has been the best coach ever. I want to just thank him for just being patient and just allowing me to explore dance,” Phaedra said.

Who got the top score of the night in Dancing with the Stars Season 33, Episode 6?

Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong got the highest score in Dancing with the Stars Season 33, Episode 6.

Chandler and Brandon slayed with their werewolf-inspired Paso Doble to We Own the Night from ZOMBIES 2. She knows this song because Chandler sings it and acts in the movie. Naturally, Chandler was still upset last week by Carrie Ann saying that she didn’t dig deep enough.

This time, Brandon and Chandler’s dramatic Paso Doble impressed all the judges. “I know it can be difficult sometimes to hear the things we say. What makes me happy is when I’m proven wrong and I say something, that I’m challenging you,” Carrie Ann said, “and you come out here on this dance floor and you throw down like nobody’s business.” Bruno weighed in, stating, “It was a Paso with a bite by the queen of the night. The power, the strength, the attitude … don’t mess with me because you’re not going to win. But the artistry was there, you see,” he added. I was impressed by the duo’s cape work and Chandler’s renewed confidence.

Then they performed as part of Team Goofs to the song I2I from A Goofy Movie. The tricks and lifts were incredible! “That was amazing. That was so tight and so clean and so well-rehearsed,” Carrie Ann stated. At the end of the night, Chandler and Brandon topped the leaderboard with a score of 54 out of 60.

What were the judge’s scores in DWTS Season 33, Episode 6?

  • Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong (Paso Doble) – 54 points
  • Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten (Jazz) – 52 points
  • Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson (Samba) – 52 points
  • Danny Amendola and Witney Carson (Jazz) – 51 points
  • Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber (Rumba) – 51 points
  • Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach (Tango) – 48 points
  • Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy (Jazz) – 48 points
  • Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold (Charleston) – 48 points

The team dances shook up the leaderboard. It knocked Danny and Witney from being tied for first place to being tied for fourth place. Team Goofs, which included Ilona, Chandler, Jenn, Joey, and their partners killed their dance. It was far more entertaining and had more content than Team Roar’s routine. Plus, Ilona Maher and pro Jenna performed an incredible lift. Derek chimed in, exclaiming, “Ilona and Jenna, that was the best lift of the competition!”

Meanwhile, Team Roar, consisting of Phaedra, Stephen, Danny, and Dwight, served up a fun and athletic dance. But the group wasn’t in sync. In the end, I was a bit disappointed.

However, it seemed like most of the contestants that ended up in lower rankings on the leaderboard ended up on this team. Dwight and Ilona, who had the lowest position on the leaderboard last week, were team captains and picked their teammates. Maybe the judges should select the teams so it is more balanced in the future.

Final thoughts on Dancing with the Stars Season 33, Episode 6

All in all, I enjoyed “Disney Night.” I thought it was magical that the judges gave out high scores to routines that didn’t merit it. Let’s just say the Disney spirit moved them.

I enjoyed Jenn and Sasha’s elegant Rumba to Kiss the Girl from The Little Mermaid. During their rehearsal package, Jenn called Sasha, “Babe.” If this duo isn’t already dating, they may want to consider it. Even Derek weighed in on their sizzling chemistry. “Is it weird for me to say that I ‘ship this? I don’t know,” he said.

Plus, Ilona and Alan’s Jazz routine to Encanto’s Surface Pressure was great. Ilona even lifted Alan, who was dressed as a scary donkey. I also loved Danny and Witney’s Deadpool & Wolverine Jazz number. The combination of martial arts and Danny letting his personality shine through made this a great performance.

Next week’s theme is “Halloween Nightmares” and will feature routines based on the contestant’s real-life nightmares. Now that is an interesting twist on the usual Halloween show. Plus, there will be side-to-side dance-offs for extra points.

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
