Southern Charm star Patricia Altschul, along with her close friend and butler, Michael Kelcourse, were a dynamic duo. Unfortunately, Michael suffered some serious health setbacks in 2021 and retired from his job with Patricia. After he suffered a spinal stroke, Michael moved from Charleston to Florida. Sadly, we learned that he recently passed away.
Michael Kelcourse suffered another stroke in early October
In February 2021, Michael suffered a spinal cord stroke. As a result, he was paralyzed from his chest down. Thankfully, Patricia visited Michael in Florida to catch up in December 2023.
Then, Patricia shared that her dear friend and former employee suffered another stroke. At the time, Michael was living in an assisted living facility in Florida. Patricia further requested that fans send him birthday cards.
A loved one who was sharing updates about Michael on his Caring Bridge page shared the heartbreaking news. “It is with a heavy heart that I share Michael Kelcourse died on October 22 in Sarasota, Florida due to complications related to a spinal cord injury and stroke. In the years following Michael’s February 2021 spinal stroke, he remained extraordinarily good-natured about the cruel twist of fate,” the page reads. “As hope of recovery dwindled here, Michael focused on blessings there. A profound inspiration for all who crossed his path.”
The update continued, “Despite relatively constant disappointment from an unending stream of medical complications related to spinal cord injury, the only time I ever witnessed Michael with spirits down was when he started hospice care in June. But first, caviar. Seriously. When I implored Michael to tell me what he needed to feel supported in this transition, he replied, “Send caviar.” Such a typical Michael response.
“Last night, Pat and I exchanged happy memories of Michael (AKA “the most stable relationship I’ve ever had,” joking about her longest marriage being 15 years and spending 18 years with Michael). Apparently, Pat received a caviar SOS, too,” Michael’s loved one said. “Pat’s precious pug, Chauncey, preceded Michael in death by days. We find some comfort in the belief that they are on the next adventure together.”
Southern Charm fans will miss Michael’s warm presence, his incredible martinis, and his love for all of Pat’s dogs over the years.
