Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba is loving the chemistry between dance partners Sasha Farber and Jenn Tran.
“Sasha and Jenn have a really great connection,” Carrie Ann told Entertainment Weekly on October 23. “When I talk about [their] chemistry, I don’t mean it in a sexual way. In partner dancing, it really does help to have a natural chemistry where you can feel your partner. You can kind of anticipate where they’re going because there’s just an ongoing connection.”
In addition to “a really good balance of energies,” Carrie Ann added that “they complement each other really well.”
Sasha Farber and Jenn Tran trust each other as dance partners
“I think the basis of their chemistry is her trust in him,” Carrie Ann continued. “This chemistry that they have developed has really created a safe space for her to grow as a dancer.”
Entertainment Weekly joked that “things got kinda weird” when cohost Julianne Hough asked about their chemistry in the skybox while waiting for their scores. But Carrie Ann claimed ignorance.
“I didn’t catch what happened,” she said. “So I’m curious as well.”
Following their sexy dance to Disney’s Little Mermaid’s “Kiss the Girl,” Julianne asked the dance partners whether chemistry “makes a difference” in the ballroom.
“Absolutely! … If we didn’t have such a good relationship, our dancing would be totally off,” the Bachelorette alum responded. “We trust each other so much, [and] we know each other so well, so that’s why this works so well.”
Did Sasha eventually “kiss the girl” during their dance?
In their pre-dance package, Jenn flirtily asked Sasha if he was going to “kiss the girl” at the end of their performance. Though he didn’t kiss her on the lips, he did finally press a sweet smooch to her forehead at the end of their performance. Jenn explained that they wanted to keep their dance routine faithful to the spirit of the Disney film, where Ariel doesn’t get her kiss till the very end of the movie.
“We wanted to … do it the way the movie was,” she exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday. “We don’t want to make up stuff that didn’t happen in the movie. That’d be crazy!”
Sasha added that he wanted to keep the dance “elegant.”
After receiving positive feedback from the judges, Jenn gushed that it was “really exciting” to hear Carrie Ann call their routine the “best dance so far.”
“I worked really hard this week, so Carrie Ann telling me that meant a lot,” she said. Jenn deserves some happiness after what happened to her on The Bachelorette.
Dancing with the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
