It looks like Joan Vassos is operating a “judgment-free zone” on The Golden Bachelorette. She’s not phased by the restraining order Guy Gansert’s ex-wife filed against him, and she doesn’t want you to be either.
On the show, the 61-year-old has narrowed down her search for love to four suitors, including Guy. His past has been a point of concern for viewers at home, but during a recent episode of The Viall Files podcast, Joan explained why the information didn’t bother her. According to her, this kind of thing is just a part of life.
Joan Vassos wants to look beyond Guy Gansert’s past
In case you missed it, Guy’s ex-wife filed for a temporary restraining order against him in 2021. When that information surfaced, Guy posted a lengthy explanation on his Instagram detailing what exactly happened. Long story short, he chopped it up to a side-effect of a messy divorce and claimed that she voluntarily dismissed the order.
Despite the explanation, some fans were still suspicious, so Joan broke her silence on The Viall Files. She explained that a messy past comes with the territory of dating other senior citizens.
“The Golden franchise is a little bit unique because we come here with a lot of past,” Joan explained. “We’ve lived a lot of life and it doesn’t completely surprise me that there are things that they’re maybe not proud of later on.”
Joan went on to say that she “never saw that side of Guy” while they filmed the show. She said their interactions were “pure and lovely” and had no indication of the behavior his ex-wife experienced. Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t have brought him into the final four.
She said, “I still believe that he’s a kind and good person. You know, maybe he made a mistake. I don’t know. I don’t know anything about [it] other than what you guys know.”
The Golden Bachelorette continues on Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
