What do Real Housewives have in common with Scream’s Neve Campbell, Twin Peaks’ Sheryl Lee, and Hereditary’s Toni Collette? Those horror leading ladies and our favorite Bravolebrities are well known for screaming. Of course, Real Housewives usually scream about rumors or betrayals, rather than out of fear, but the point stands.
Two legendary scream queens even appeared on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Halloween, The Fog, and Prom Night star Jamie Lee Curtis (and her chic wind chimes) made a cameo. And Jennifer Tilly, aka Tiffany Valentine, joins the cast as a friend of this season. Of course, RHOBH OG Kyle Richards also has a horror movie legacy. But she’s not the only Housewife who earns scream queen status. Here are some of our favorite ladies who would thrive in a scary scene on the silver screen!
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City: Lisa Barlow
There’s a reason that Angie Katsanevas chose to use a photo of Lisa Barlow screaming for her Wanted poster invitation. You never need to ask Baby Gorgeous to speak up! Whether she’s on a hot mic, in a Sprinter van, or at a sound bath event, Lisa will make her voice heard. She even went toe to toe (scream to scream?) with Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s top scream queens Jen Shah and Monica Garcia.
If a horror movie villain tries to come for Lisa, you know she’ll get on the phone with her security team and threaten to shut them down. Think Drew Barrymore shouting on the phone about her football player boyfriend in the first Scream movie.
Real Housewives of Orange County: Tamra Judge
You know you’re a Real Housewives scream queen when a clip of you screaming is known far and wide, even beyond the Bravo fandom world. Tamra Judge shouting “THAT’S MY OPINION!!!” is one of the most famous Real Housewives clips ever. Of course, that’s not the only iconic moment of Tamra raising her voice on Real Housewives of Orange County. There was a whole Watch What Happens Live game based on her screaming matches over the years!
If anyone could think of a final insult to scream before defeating the bad guy- such as Ripley’s “Get away from her you bitch!” in Aliens- it’s Tamra. Also, whether you love her or hate her, Tamra is undeniably a star. And that’s another very significant element of being a scream queen.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: Erika Jayne
Last season, Erika Jayne was considerably more mellow. She even gave up fighting for Lent, although Denise Richards pushed her to make an exception. But for years, Erika was arguably infamous for her sharp tongue and temper, which often resulted in screaming matches.
Also, Erika already inspired a Halloween costume. Lisa Rinna dressed like her pal for the Season 9 Halloween party. So, that puts her in line with many of the most famous scream queens from horror movie history.
Judging by the Season 14 trailer, Erika may have some competition in the scream queen department on RHOBH. It looks like Dorit Kemsley is now activated and will be screaming up a storm.
Real Housewives of Potomac: Wendy Osefo
I’m mainly putting Wendy Osefo on this list for one very specific moment during her first season on Real Housewives of Potomac. I’m thinking, of course, of the memorable scene when Monique Samuels’ beloved pet T’Challa the bird (RIP) flew at her mid-conversation. The way Dr. Wendy screamed, it was as if Jason or Ghostface was chasing after her.
The former professor also has major Final Girl energy. She’s a pro at defending herself, and would use her considerable wits to out smart the bad guys. I also can imagine her brushing off a horror movie villain with a hair flip and a “It’s a flop!” Plus, this Season 8 reunion look reminds us of the scream queens of Death Becomes Her, one of our top horror movie recommendations for Real Housewives fans.
Real Housewives of New York: Dorinda Medley
Much like Tamra, Dorinda Medley is very famous for a moment of screaming, which is well known even outside the Bravo fandom. The Blue Stone Manor “I made it nice!” meltdown was already straight out of a horror movie. And an obvious reason Dorinda would make an amazing scream queen is that she adores Halloween!
Dorinda’s Halloween parties on Real Housewives of New York set the bar very high. Dorinda always went above and beyond, both with her costumes and her decor. And she inspired her RHONY co-stars to do the same. While Dorinda is “on pause” from RHONY, we can’t wait to see her in her scream queen element on The Traitors Season 3.
