After 13 years of marriage, Teddi Mellencamp is filing for divorce from Edwin Arroyave. Teddi and Edwin, who have three kids together, were main cast members on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for Seasons 8-10. The RHOBH alum, who also cameos on Real Housewives of Orange County, announced her split from Edwin on Saturday November 2. Throughout the weekend, more details began to trickle out. Here’s everything we know about Teddi and Edwin’s split so far.
Teddi Mellencamp announced her divorce from Edwin Arroyave on Instagram
On Saturday November 2, Teddi announced the split by posting a statement on her Instagram. It began, “After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce.” The Two T’s in a Pod co-host continued, “My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and well being throughout this next chapter.”
“Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do,” Teddi claimed, “but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest, and vulnerable was the next step forward.”
When she posted the emotional statement, Teddi turned off Instagram comments. Which is probably smart, since I imagine nasty internet comments are the last thing you’d want to deal with at a time like this.
A few details about Teddi’s statement stood out. First of all, Teddi didn’t mention Edwin’s name. Secondly, she referenced speculation and rumors.
How did Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans react?
At first, many RHOBH fans were shocked by the announcement. Especially considering Edwin and Teddi’s Instagram posts from a week before. On October 24, Edwin and Teddi attended the Melanoma Research Foundation Gala together. Over the years, Teddi’s been very open about her battle with melanoma.
In each of their posts from the event, Teddi and Edwin both included several lovey-dovey photos. In addition to a photo of them kissing, they also posted one where Edwin romantically dipped his wife.
Edwin also praised Teddi in his caption. “I always say life and pain are inseparable. And to see @teddimellencamp embrace her pain and use it for the greater good again last night as she emceed the @curemelanoma gala, was a beautiful reminder of what she is capable of, he wrote. “Her story has already saved lives. And I couldn’t be prouder that she will continue to save more,” he gushed.
“Love you, Teds,” he wrote, cheekily adding, “(so much so that I missed the Rams game to be there).”
Were there signs of trouble in Teddi and Edwin’s marriage?
On a September 2024 episode of Two T’s in a Pod, Teddi told co-host Tamra Judge about a potential marriage-ending moment with Edwin while filming RHOBH. The then-couple shot a scene where they discussed expanding their family. As Teddi recalled, Edwin made a comment that really upset her. She told Tamra, “We start talking about it and Edwin says the quote, ‘Then you’re going to get big again. Are you okay with that?’”
“I honestly wanted to die in that moment,” Teddi said. If that scene aired, she claimed it “would have ended [them]” as a couple. She also told Tamra that, after filming, she confronted Edwin for his comments. Once they got in their car, “I was like, ‘I am disgusted that you said that. I’m furious that you said that. You embarrassed me, you hurt me. You know my past issues.’ Like all those things.” Yikes!
Last year, Teddi made some telling comments when discussing Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky’s split. Teddi referenced years where she had “so much resentment towards Edwin,” adding, “it was to the point where I couldn’t even look at him.” While she didn’t give a direct answer when asked if Edwin cheated, many read between the lines and interpreted her comments that way.
How did Edwin respond to Teddi’s divorce announcement?
Once Teddi announced the impending divorce, all eyes were on her estranged husband’s social media. In his first social media post after Teddi’s announcement, Edwin showed he got nine hours of sleep. “I recently spoke about just getting 3 hours of sleep a night,” he captioned the screenshot, “Finally getting some rest!” Maybe the announcement took some weight off of his shoulders?
Edwin applied that positive attitude to his next post, even as he referenced “dark days.” Alongside a selfie, he wrote, “You’re not always going to be motivated or inspired. That’s where rituals & habits come in.” He continued, “Having good habits is what will get you through your dark days. It’s when you’re under pressure that your true character is revealed.”
On Sunday, Edwin posted a photo with their three children on their way to church. “Church bound with these beautiful souls,” he wrote alongside the photo. And the following day, he highlighted passages about praying over your children. This reflected Teddi’s statement about her children being the priority.
How Teddi is moving forward after announcing the divorce
Over the weekend, the Daily Mail posted pictures of Teddi wearing her wedding ring. However, according to TMZ, Teddi officially filed for divorce on the same day as she announced the split. She marked October 20 as the date of separation, which was before they showed PDA at the gala. Teddi is seeking spousal support, but asked to block Edwin from requesting the same. She is seeking primary physical and legal custody of their three children, but is open to granting Edwin visitation.
On Monday November 4, Teddi tagged Edwin in an Instagram story celebrating their daughter Slate. Alongside a picture of the 12-year-old, Teddi wrote, “Slate presenting in front of all school at chapel. Proud of you angel.”
As she navigates their divorce, Teddi will surely have support from her Real Housewives pals. On her former show, the entire Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14 cast are divorcees or currently separated. Of course, Teddi’s BFF Kyle knows a lot about navigating a public split amidst her divorce from Mauricio Umansky. So does Erika Jayne, who recently appeared on Two T’s in a Pod.
We’ll have to see if Teddi references marriage woes on the upcoming season of RHOBH. While she was fired after Season 10, Teddi cameos on every subsequent season. If RHOBH sticks with its cast of single ladies, perhaps she could even return full-time.
