As one-fourth of the famed Sister Wives series, Janelle Brown has been an open book about her polygamous lifestyle. She was Kody Brown’s trusty second wife for years, handling the finances and keeping a cool demeanor. However, not everything was peachy, as she shared early on that she was once married to Meri Brown’s brother.
Janelle Brown is looking into her past
Janelle was once married to Meri’s brother, Adam Barber. During a recent visit to the Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast, Janelle shared that she first said “I do” in 1998, but the marriage ended after two years. The mother of six shared with the host “I think we might have lived together physically, actually lived together for like six months.” Kate then joked that the relationship was a “starter marriage,” to which the TLC star answered, “Probably really qualifies. It just didn’t take.” Sister Wives learned that Meri had already been married to Kody.
But Janelle ensured fans that she didn’t cross paths with Meri or Kody while married. The answer seemed strange since, at the time, Meri would have been her sister-in-law. In 1990, Janelle got divorced from Adam. In 1993, she became Kody’s second wife. During the podcast, she shared that when she met the patriarch, she was already curious about the polygamous lifestyle and the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB.) Listeners learned that for Janelle, “It represented something a little bit more dynamic or something more robust than the faith I had, which was the same faith, just missing some of the pieces that had been given up.”
Janelle Brown opens up about family life
Kody always had a special spark, according to the mother of six. “And so when I met Kody, just in passing, Meri introduced us, I thought, ‘Oh, I had sort of a feeling, an introduction feeling. Like, there you are.’ Not looking to get married or connect or anything. But it was just a moment when I saw him,” she added. When Christine Brown joined the clan, the Browns had an actual family unit. According to Janelle, “We really were having children close together. So they kind of all grown up like siblings. I always was a career, kind of a career-oriented person.” The Sister Wives star was just happy to “work and have a job outside the home. I missed my kids at home, but it was great.”
