Below Deck Sailing Yacht Chef Cloyce Martin Hits Back After Daisy Kelliher’s ‘Advice’

One of the most important relationships on a super yacht is that of the Chief Stew and the Chef. They need to work together to present their high-paying guests with the fabulous food and stellar service they expect.

Sadly, that’s not the way things are going in Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher has far more experience in the industry than Chef Cloyce Martin. But he refuses to listen to her when she offers suggestions to help elevate his game.

He may be a talented chef, but he has a long way to go in terms of food presentation. And, let’s be honest, he’s just a little bit lazy. Rather than creating beautiful plates of food, Cloyce prefers to serve things “family style.” That’s okay if you’re at the local Buca di Beppo, but not on a super yacht.

Chef reacted to Daisy Kelliher encouraging him to raise the bar

During Episode 6, Daisy again tried to urge Cloyce to step it up. A “Seafood Extravaganza” was served family style when it should have been elegantly plated. Even one of the guests remarked that she would have preferred her meal to be plated. Ironically, several of the other guests agreed with her.

After consulting with Captain Glenn Shephard, Daisy approached Cloyce the next morning. “Obviously, you know I’m not a chef,” she says. “But I’ve been in the industry for quite a while. I think things are a little bit last-minute, and I think the dinners need to be a bit more. I genuinely think that’s what the guests are expecting, and I don’t want it to affect the tip.”

Surprised at Daisy’s criticism of his food, Cloye immediately became prickly. “‘More’ as in … elaborate?” he asked. “Some things are inherently rustic … Everybody obviously does it a little differently.”

“I think the guests are expecting a bit more,” she responded. “This isn’t my first rodeo. I’m trying to help you.”

“I have never in the history of my charter experience had anyone question my capabilities in the galley,” Chef said, moving into defensive mode.

“I’m trying to help you from my eleven years of yachting,” Daisy replied. “But maybe in the two years of yachting you’ve been doing, you know better.” Actually, Cloyce may not have a lot of yachting experience, but he’s got some reality TV cred.

Captain Glenn was worried about his chef. “We’re not even halfway through the charter season,” he interviewed. “He can’t be coasting. He’s got to be putting out the best of his best.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
