Survivor 47 castaway Genevieve Mushaluk caught viewers’ attention in Episode 4 when she devised a plan to blindside Kishan Patel and keep her ally, Rome Cooney, safe from elimination. Fans were impressed with her quick thinking and willingness to go against the grain. She had an opportunity to take out a social threat and she took it. In the weeks following the blindside, fans kept a close eye on Genevieve, waiting to see if she could live up to the hype. The last few episodes have proven she’s one to watch this season, from finding the first advantage post-merge to plotting Sierra Wright’s Survivor death last week. She definitely has her eye on the prize.
Here is why Genevieve is my Survivor 47 winners pick.
Genevieve Mushaluk knows how to pick an ally on Survivor 47
When it comes to picking an ally, Genevieve isn’t interested in brawn or brains. Instead, she’s looking for a wounded puppy she can scoop up. First, it was Rome, whose cockiness and brash delivery made him unpopular among the Lavo tribe. Genevieve saw the benefit of having a player like Rome on her side. She worked with him until he became too much of a liability then threw him to the wolves. After losing Rome, she set her sights on Andy Rueda, who has been flailing at the bottom of the Gata tribe since his public meltdown in Episode 1. She picked him up at exactly the right time. Andy was growing tired of his Gata “allies,” so when Genevieve wanted to target his tribe, he didn’t put up a fight.
Genevieve is the sneakiest player on Survivor 47
The secret to success on Survivor is managing and disguising your threat level. Fans want to see a deserving player take home the money but if your game is too flashy, your fellow castaways will send you to Ponderosa the first chance they get. Genevieve has made big moves but she’s stealthy about it, allowing her allies to take the credit while she sits back.
She was the mastermind behind Kishan’s exit but she allowed Rome to take the fall. The move weakened his already shaky relationships with Sol Yi and Teeny Chirichillo, while she survived unscathed and still on good terms with her Lavo teammates.
Last week, Genevieve once again strayed from the original plan and created one that benefited her game. Her Lavo allies wanted to work with Gata to target one of the remaining Tuku members but she saw the value in keeping them around. Instead, she wanted to take a shot at Gata, who she viewed as a bigger threat. She quickly rallied the votes by bringing in Tuku and convincing them a Gata member needed to be the target. Then, she spoke to Sol and Teeny who reluctantly agreed to change course.
To me, what is most impressive about Genevieve’s game is that she makes big moves but no one clocks her as a threat. When she presented the new plan to Sol and Teeny they weren’t angry. Her sudden change of course didn’t make them trust her less, which is a testament to her impressive social game. She’s orchestrated two blindsides, won an Immunity Challenge, and found an advantage, yet she isn’t on anyone’s radar.
Genevieve is a good talker
Brawn can only get you so far in a game like Survivor. To win it all, you need to be able to convince a jury you played a game worthy of a million dollars. I’m not worried about Genevieve winning over the jury. While she’s proven to be a strong competitor, her social game is her greatest strength. She’s a good talker and knows how to get what she wants. If she makes it to the final Tribal Council, I think she has what it takes to win it all.
