Survivor fans have been wondering which players will return for Season 50. This is the first time that players will be returning since Season 40: Winners at War. With so many possible players from the OG game to the New Era, the possibilities are endless. But don’t worry, the host with the most Jeff Probst is promising a unique and exciting season.
Jeff Probst says that Season 50 of Survivor will be “a celebration”
Jeff is not only the host, but also the showrunner. And a man not afraid of parasites or infections, as clearly shown when he ate some peanut butter right after the contestants. “Imagine you have just an empty whiteboard and you can write anything you want on it. The first word that came to me was celebrate,” Jeff told Entertainment Weekly. “And that’s important to me because that’s going to guide us into our creative. We want fans to be happy. We want this to be a celebration.”
This is the first time that contestants have a chance to return, other than Bruce Perreault, who was medically evacuated during Survivor 44. And Jeff has a certain type of player in mind. “We want players who are also excited to be on it. This is not Winners at War. It doesn’t mean we don’t want players who are going to play hard,” Jeff explained. “Of course we do. But it means we’re also big-picture trying to celebrate 25 years, and that means joyful players who are in a good mood and want to play.” He added, “We’re not looking for disgruntled players looking to settle a score. We’re looking for players who want a second chance, who have something to prove to themselves.”
The goal is to cast a season that fans, players, and producers of the show can all enjoy. “So how do you do that in a way that’s fun, that includes the fans, that has the players that all the fans want to see,” Jeff stated, “and will still give you the opportunity for another great season of Survivor? So celebration is the first word, and that equals joy. I’m looking for those moments that are going to be really fun and really funny.” Amen! Bring the humor.
Of course, some players have already been expressing their interest in being part of Survivor: 50. “The players are excited, and we like that. That’s a good sign,” Jeff said. “It says you want it, so we welcome that.” However, Jeff did remind players that some “secrecy” is needed for every season. Fans, and players, will have quite a wait. Season 50 will film in the spring of 2025.
Survivor 47 airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
