Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New York presented fans with a completely new crop of apple-holders. After a dull Season 13, RHONY ended up with no reunion and a rebooted cast. Some of the most interesting newbies were flirty and fun marketing consultant Brynn Whitfield, model and entrepreneur Ubah Hassan, and influencer and mom Sai De Silva. This trio remained close during much of the season, until the finale.
The breakdown in their friendships can mostly be traced back to one big mistake on Sai and Brynn’s part. After Ubah confided in Sai that she was dating a man in Connecticut, she asked Sai to keep it between them. But Sai spilled the tea to Brynn. During the finale, which happened to be Brynn’s birthday party, Brynn loudly mentioned Ubah’s man, Mr. Connecticut. This mistake caused Brynn and Sai to stop speaking. And the echoes of this unresolved issue carried into the next season.
So far during Season 15 of RHONY, the former bestie’s friendship is still rocky. Let’s look at why Brynn Whitfield and Sai De Silva should repair their friendship.
Both Sai De Silva and Brynn Whitfield failed Ubah Hassan
At Brynn’s birthday party, she revealed that Sai told her Ubah’s secret. “That is f*cked up!” Sai said. Then Brynn claimed that Sai shared the information on camera. “It was not on f*cking camera!” Sai screamed. “F*ck you, Brynn. Have a good birthday,” Sai yelled. “I’m leaving.”
Later, Sai addressed what happened. “I’m very, very loyal. I shouldn’t have said it to her in the first place,” Sai stated. “It wasn’t something that was overly big, but I shouldn’t have shared it and when I did it felt like a circle of trust … she kind of broke that circle of trust.” Sai added, “And I was very disappointed.”Â
The former friends didn’t speak from the time the show wrapped until the reunion. That was a long time. While Brynn shouldn’t have mentioned Ubah’s man, Sai also broke Ubah’s trust by sharing the details in the first place. Season 15 of RHONY has set up a simmering feud between Brynn and Ubah, and this incident marks the point where Ubah begins to doubt Brynn.
Brynn Whitfield is the epicenter of all the Season 15 RHONY drama
Plus, Brynn managed to become ground zero for all the drama during the Season 15 premiere. She repeated a story that Erin Lichy told her about having to call an Uber for Jenna Lyons, and not being repaid. Brynn insisted that Erin shaded Jenna’s finances.
Then, Jenna told Sai that she heard that she couldn’t stand Jenna. Finally, Sai and Erin realized that the common denominator in their misery was Brynn. And Sai was furious that Brynn leaked a shady text message from Sai about Jessel Taank and her husband.
When the ladies confronted Brynn, Sai came in extra hot, calling Brynn, “Satan.” She also called her a “gaslighting, narcissist f*cking *sshole.” WOW. Tell us how you really feel, Sai. Eventually, Brynn walked out of her own party.
Later, Brynn and Sai tried to discuss their issues in the Hamptons. However, Brynn’s habit of embellishing stories annoyed both Ubah and Sai. But that is no different than what Erin has done in the past. In the end, Sai felt like her feelings were swept aside when Brynn gave a blanket apology.
And Brynn remained angry at Sai and called her “a miserable troll that lives under the Brooklyn Bridge.” Of course, Brynn made that comment behind Sai’s back. Â
Sai and Brynn had a close connection
Both Brynn and Sai had difficult childhoods. Brynn’s grandmother raised her and her siblings. “My father and his family [were] never in the picture,” Brynn stated. Before Brynn’s grandmother stepped in, it was a heartbreaking situation. According to Brynn, “There was abuse and neglect.”
In addition, Brynn’s family struggled financially. However, now Brynn has no close relatives to spend time with during the holidays. So, it was always a difficult time since her grandmother passed away.
So, last season, Sai decided to have a “Brynnsgiving” and invite all the ladies. It was a special gesture and showed how close Brynn and Sai were. While it seems like Sai was last season’s villain, she was also sweet at times. Maybe just not to Jessel.
Sai always understood Brynn and her challenging upbringing. Last season, while discussing the holidays, Sai told her husband, David Craig, “I just relate to Brynn because I know what it feels like to not have family around. It feels lonely,” Sai said. “It feels isolating.”
Of course, Sai knows this from experience. Her mom was an alcoholic, and her addiction spiraled around the time that Sai turned 16 years old. “She wasn’t the person that I grew up with. She was just someone who was completely different,” the influencer said. “Anyway, fast forward, she died. She had a heart attack in a park by herself.” It was very moving in Season 15 when Sai and her family planted a tree in their yard and put her mother’s ashes there.
Why Brynn Whitfield and Sai De Silva’s dynamic is fun for viewers
During Season 14, Erin arranged for the group to have dinner at a restaurant. However, Brynn and Sai ditched the cast because they didn’t want to be seen in that establishment. They picked a trendier spot. Let’s just say that Erin wasn’t happy that the duo pretended to be tired so they could go elsewhere. Â
This wasn’t the only food-themed conflict that involved Sai and Brynn. Brynn repeated the story of how Sai allegedly told Erin that eating cheese was “weird.” However, Sai denied this serious allegation and insisted that she enjoyed the delicious cheese from Erin’s charcuterie board. All of these ladies repeat stories and talk about each other behind each other’s backs. It is a chaotic, and often entertaining, game of telephone.
Recently, Sai apologized to Brynn, but Brynn was still holding on to her anger. I think that Brynn and Sai should repair their friendship. They bonded over such personal issues, and they respected each other. It may take some time, but I hope that this duo will end up on the same page.
