Why It’s Okay for RHOSLC’s Bronwyn Newport and Heather Gay Not To Be Friends

Since Season 5 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake started, fans have seen Heather Gay and Bronwyn Newport continue to get off on the wrong foot. The OG hasn’t found the newbie all that exciting, as Heather has found it hard to be welcoming. The Beauty Lab owner has been on her back foot since episode one and feels like Bronwyn just wants attention. Even though the last episode showed B trying to mend the bridge, it all went pear-shaped. However, I like the fact that they don’t get along. They are very different, and that is fine!

Heather Gay and Bronwyn Newport are polar opposites

I know they say opposites attract, but sometimes they really fight against friction and, in turn, never come together. I think this is the case for Heather and Bronwyn. Sadly, first impressions did this duo in. Heather can’t get past the trash-talking Bronwyn she met in Lisa Barlow’s car. And I have to be honest, I think I would agree with Heather. It would be hard to believe that Brownyn doesn’t talk about Heather the way she annihilated Whitney Rose. If she can talk about one friend behind their back, she can talk about Heather.

Heather seems to be a loyal woman until the very end. This trait is often hard to find in the younger generation, and I speak from experience. So, I imagine Heather is wary of what she can trust Bronwyn with. Naturally, there is a flip side, too. I believe Bronwyn isn’t acting abnormally and is trying to win the new group of girls over by being funny. But not everyone thinks the fashionista is such a hoot.

Bronwyn Newport and Heather Gay communicate differently

The latest episode showed Bronwyn inviting Heather over to her Pee-Wee Herman-like house for what was supposed to be a healing moment. The two were visibly uncomfortable interacting, and it all blew up over some uneaten coffee cake. The pair struggled to see eye-to-eye during their conversation, and after a tit-for-tat, Heather left, stating, “This is not the type of friendship I want to have.” Both didn’t share their goals for the conversation very clearly. Browyn upset Heather when she insinuated that this was the time for Heather to earn her place on the upcoming trip. And Heather didn’t exactly have an open mind or heart to give B a chance.

On the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Aftershow, Heather shared, “When she invited me over, I knew me and Bronwyn needed to clear the air. I was just hoping that she was going to basically apologize and explain that she was new in the group, she was figuring it out, and we could go on from there with a clean slate.” But sadly Heather never communicated this to Bronwyn leaving the newbie to feel that Heather was acting unreasonable.

Heather Gay and Bronwyn Newport get under each other’s skin

I love that these two don’t get along because it feels more genuine than faking a relationship. From day one, Heather has been a fan favorite. So, for Bronwyn to come along and call her out on her mess and hypocritical attitude probably doesn’t sit well with Heather. The sit-down before the trip made complete sense since B just wanted to smooth things over. She knew very well that if she didn’t invite Heather on the girl’s trip, there would be hell to pay.

Instead, Heather chose to twist Bronwyn’s intentions so she could use them for ammo in her feud, which is what happened. I think Heather has more at stake when it comes to the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Bronwyn is extremely wealthy and most likely taking part in the show for a laugh. But Heather has so much invested in her character that she might feel hurt by Bronwyn’s lackadaisical attitude. Bottom line: I don’t see these two ever being best friends. And I think that is plausible, and it adds another level of realness to this already perfect season.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is streaming on Peacock.
