Fans of Real Housewives of New York rejoiced when Bravo revealed that Jenna Lyons would return for Season 15. The former J. Crew Executive Creative Director turned heads during Season 14 as she made it clear she wasn’t a girly girl but rather a woman who marches to the beat of her own drum. She won over fans with her “I’m just a girl” act and added a well-rounded dimension to the Bravo reboot. And even though she has mostly been an open book, I wish the mother of one would be just a little more revealing when it came to her personal relationship.
Give fans more Jenna Lyons
Jenna is engaged, but neither the cast nor fans know much about her fiancée, Cass Bird. In October 2024, Jenna revealed she was engaged to a professional photographer. In June 2023, Jenna was featured in a New York Times article where she first revealed she was dating Cass. Fast forward one year and the couple were already talking about walking down the aisle. While on an episode of Sherri, the fashionista noted that they weren’t close to a wedding date, but it “was happening.”
Not much is known about Jenna’s new flame, as Cass likes to stay out of the limelight. During a Season 14 episode, Jenna made it clear Cass wouldn’t film. She told production, “My life has put me in the public eye for my job and other things I’ve done. And that is my choice. And someone does not want to be in that with me, then I have to respect that.” But in her New York Times feature, Jenna revealed she told the rest of the cast. The article read, “The words come out of your mouth, and you’re like, I can’t take those back. It has not been the part of my life that I have been very successful in.”
Who is Cass Bird?
Even though Jenna is trying her best to keep her soon-to-be wife under wraps, many have been able to dig up a little information. Cass is a California native and West Coast girl at heart. I imagine dating an East Coast Jenna must be like trying to control a fire since the West Coast locals are known to be laid-back. However, Cass relocated to New York after she graduated from Smith College in 1999. Cass works as a fine art and commercial photographer who is based out of Brooklyn. She has worked for outlets like the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and the New York Times Magazine via Communication Arts. She is known for her exploration of feminine identity and has also worked with major fashion brands like Calvin Klein and Dior.
Cass was in a relationship for 14 years with partner Ali Bird. The duo had known one another since 1997 and shared two children together. She and Jenna have a lot in common as both have children and were once in committed relationships. Jenna once joked with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live about her engagement.
RHONY fans want more from Jenna Lyons
The RHONY star noted, “So basically, here’s the story. My girlfriend, who I adore, kept telling me that I had to button my shirt, and I said, ‘If you want me to button my shirt, you have to put a ring on it. We’re just really happy, and she gave me the ring that I wanted.” And while the fairytale meets cute and adorable, other fans and I can’t help but feel we want more from Jenna. I can’t deny that she has already been quite open with viewers.
Jenna bravely talks about being outed and her coming out story during Season 14. And just two episodes ago, she confided in Erin Lichy about choosing to have an abortion. But what would be a cherry on top is if Jenna really embraced her relationship with Cass and decided to trust fans. I fear that if Jenna continues to keep Cass of the Real Housewives of New York, it might backfire on her. I understand the need for boundaries, but my question to Jenna would be, “Why continue to film a reality TV show?” Hopefully, Jenna will be able to find a happy balance between keeping her love life private and satiating fans’ desires to know more.
