SUR-prise! That’s exactly what Bravo did to fans when they announced Vanderpump Rules was getting an overhaul.
Despite complaints about a lackluster Season 11, I don’t think fans thought Bravo would completely wipe the VPR clean slate and start with a new cast. But that is exactly what they are doing.
Matriarch Lisa Vanderpump will still be on the show (obviously) and she wants everyone to know that change is a good thing.
In with the new, darling
The longtime Bravo star spoke with E! News about what fans can expect from the reboot.
“I think everything we do is going to have a different energy to it,” Lisa shared. “Not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules. It’s just gonna be totally different there. Still, we’ll go back to the premise of the complications of running a restaurant and the staff in it. And that always has a story to tell.”
On November 26, Bravo issued a press release announcing that Season 12 of the show would feature a whole new cast. They added that the new cast are people who are “complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors.” Hmmmm.
The synopsis went on to tease, “Under Lisa Vanderpump’s watchful eye, the West Hollywood mainstay SUR — and now TomTom — welcomes the next batch of servers, hosts, and bartenders rife with plenty of drama, situationships, and frenemies.”
LVP acknowledged that change was needed, even though she had “a wonderful experience” with her former cast of 11 years. “It was time to do something different. Stories were kind of closing up a little bit. I think people, they weren’t that shocked that we decided to do this now,” she explained.
Though they won’t be coworkers anymore, Lisa plans to stay in touch with Ariana Madix, Tom Schwartz, and Scheana Shay.
“I’ve grown to love them all,” LVP admitted, “I’ll miss the whole group.”
Vanderpump Rules is currently streaming on Peacock.
