We all remember when Porsha Williams called Kenya Moore a “slut from the 90s.” However, there was much more to Kenya in the 90s. For example, did you know Kenya and Tyra Banks were close friends back then? The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum recently opened up about their surprising friendship, and now, we’re over here wishing we could have gotten a glimpse of it.
Tyra Banks and Kenya Moore were ‘inseparable’ in the 90’s
Kenya recently sat down with The Shade Room and discussed everything from her reality TV legacy to her messy scandal with Brittany Eady that she claims was not “revenge porn.”
At one point during the conversation, Kenya started reflecting on the early days of her career, and that’s when she made the surprising revelation about her friendship with Tyra. Apparently, they used to be a dynamic duo.
“In the 90’s, we were inseparable,” Kenya said. “If she wasn’t at my house, I was at her house. Like, her mom was my mom.”
For context, this friendship blossomed right after Kenya won Miss USA. Kenya said she was impressed by Tyra’s hustle. She felt inspired by Tyra’s business acumen, but they also had a close friendship.
“We just could not get off the phone. It’s almost like when you’re on the phone with your man and you’re like, ‘Are you going to hang up? Are you asleep?’ That’s what we were — we were sisters,” she recalled.
Although Kenya had a deep respect for Tyra’s work ethic, you know they had some fun back then, too. When you have a supermodel and a pageant queen together, heads will turn and hearts are guaranteed to be broken.
“The list that we have between us of the men who tried and failed was insane,” Kenya teased. “Oh, you know I can’t give you names!”
After the 1990s, Kenya and Tyra’s careers went in slightly different directions, but they had the chance to reconnect in 2021 thanks to Dancing with the Stars. Kenya competed in Season 30, which was hosted by Tyra. At the time, Tyra told Entertainment Tonight that she had to be careful “not to play favorites” with her bestie.
“She’s like my sister,” Tyra said at the time.
