Southern Charm has always centered around the drama of Charleston’s messiest Southern gentlemen. For example, ever since Austen Kroll joined the show, he’s consistently been the catalyst to some kind of chaos. Last season, his friendship with Shep Rose’s on-and-off girlfriend Taylor Ann Green got a little too close. Now, Austen is trying to learn from his mistakes and do better.
Both Taylor and Austen returned for Season 10 of Southern Charm, but they’re definitely not as buddy-buddy as they used to be. Both of them entered new relationships with people that aren’t in their shared friend group, which is probably also for the best.
In a recent interview about the current season, Austen explained that his distance from Taylor isn’t by accident. Here’s why they made a decision to change…
Austen Kroll’s new strategy
In a Q&A with Decider, Austen explained how his dynamic with Taylor is totally different this season on Southern Charm. Apparently, they did text a bit after the tense Season 9 reunion, but they’ve kept it pretty surface-level.
“Then she began to date someone and I began to date someone. I just thought that it was probably for the best that her and I took a little bit of a step back,” Austen explained.
Despite not being as close, Austen says he’ll always root for his Southern Charm co-star and enjoys being with her at social events.
“But we didn’t need to be having lunches anymore. We ruffled a lot of feathers with that,” Austen added. “So we took a little step back and began to focus more on our own lives, or on my own life.”
