Kim Richards Has Mental Health Evaluation After Calling Cops Over Cat

Kim Richards is struggling. Over the weekend before Christmas, she called the police over a “stolen cat.” The authorities were so concerned about her that they responded to her home and performed an evaluation of her mental health.

The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star seems to be in crisis and has undergone a mental health evaluation.

Family trying a “tough love” approach with Kim Richards

This isn’t the first time law enforcement officers have gotten involved with the Richards family. In September, Kim was taken into custody on a psych hold after police were called to an L.A.-area Hilton Hotel. When officers arrived, the former child star was incoherent and refused to leave the premises.

Officers then placed her on a 5150 hold, also known as an involuntary psychiatric hold. 5150 is the code that allows an adult experiencing a mental health crisis to be detained. It provides a 72-hour psychiatric hospitalization for someone deemed a danger to themselves or others.

Later that month, cops were called to a house owned by her younger sister, Kyle Richards. Concerned neighbors had called authorities to have Kim removed from the house. When Kyle arrived, she also told officers she no longer wanted her sister in the home.

At the time, the family was practicing “tough love” with Kim to get her to stop drinking. They were not just worried about her health, but her very life was in danger. The family is reportedly at a “breaking point” with Kim.

Kim called police about the theft (and return) of her cat

On Sunday, December 22, LAPD was again called to Kim’s house, according to TMZ. Police say the RHOBH alum told them someone had stolen her cat. But then she said they brought it back, before going off on a rant about her issues with Kyle.

Responding officers were concerned about the actress’ erratic behavior, and they called the mental health team to come evaluate her.

After talking to the 60-year-old, the team decided that Kim wasn’t currently a danger to herself or others. Paramedics were also called but left shortly afterward as no medical transport was required. Cops took no further action on the cat complaint.

The Richards sisters have had a rocky relationship ever since the RHOBH Season 1 finale when Kyle angrily revealed Kim’s alcoholism.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills returns on January 7 at 8/7c on Bravo.
