The breakup between Southern Charm star Craig Conover and his girlfriend of three years, Paige DeSorbo, was a shock. Of course, there were rumors that Craig and the Summer House star had parted ways. But in early December, Craig was planning to marry Paige. So, what went wrong?
Craig Conover quit drinking to become “husband and father material” for Paige DeSorbo
It was obvious that the couple faced some obstacles. Paige lives in New York City, while Craig resides in Charleston. Neither party was enthused about moving from their home base. Plus, Craig had wedding and baby fever, while Paige didn’t feel ready yet.
In fact, Craig revealed in early December that he had quit drinking to prep for his role as a husband. “I had made a decision months before the season started to become more of a husband and father material than just the fun boyfriend. I could see it in Paige’s eyes that she saw the person I could be,” Craig told PEOPLE. “A lot of the energy I used to put into going out was now being put into my company, so my schedule has increased drastically. I just feel like a regular person now instead of someone that’s waiting to film again.”
He continued, “We’re playing the long game. It would be easy to go for instant gratification, but the foundation that we’re building is so that we die together one day, not just make it fun,” Craig added. “We know we’re going to get married one day, and when it happens, it’ll be a lot of fun, but whenever that is, who knows?” Oof.
Paige DeSorbo thinks “they will remain friends”
Well, Paige dropped the breakup bombshell on her podcast, Giggly Squad. “Craig and I have decided to no longer be together,” she said. “I love him, I think he loves me. I think we will remain friends. No one did anything.”
Paige continued, “I have so much love and respect for Craig. I think he is one of the best people I’ve met in my entire life. But, with that said, I think it is the right decision for both of us,” she added.
It sounds as if something changed during December. Still, I was hopeful that this couple could make it work.
