Is the smallest state in the United States getting ready to deliver big drama on Bravo? Maybe! The word on the street is that a production team is working on launching an addition to the Real Housewives franchise – this time, Rhode Island would be the destination. The only issue is that rumors like this pop up every year, and they usually aren’t true.
In the past, we’ve heard rumblings of Housewives shows happening in cities like Chicago and Nashville. Those never came to fruition. So, is this another example of a rumor gone wild? Or, is Bravo actually working on bringing us another East Coast franchise? Let’s dive into the rumors and get to the bottom of it.
Who started the rumor about The Real Housewives of Rhode Island?
Like most rumors, the story about this new Housewives franchise got its legs on TikTok. There’s an account based in Providence, Rhode Island called “The Socialite Files.” The girl who runs the account posted a video claiming to have first-hand knowledge of the upcoming Housewives show. The news took off from there, and NBC WJAR 10 caught up with the TikToker to get to the bottom of it.
“Last spring I started a vlog series called the Real Housewives of Providence, Rhode Island of me just running around the city doing fun things,” the TikToker said. “Around that time I also had friends who were called for casting for Bravo, some shows they were thinking of doing.”
According to this TikToker, whose real name is Chelsea, Bravo has reached out to her friends on multiple occasions in pursuit of casting opportunities. For example, at one point, she said they were looking to do a show like Southern Charm but based in Rhode Island. Now, she said the network has shifted its sights to producing a Real Housewives show.
Chelsea recalled, “I’m out to dinner two months ago with a friend, she said, ‘Just a heads up’, because she knows about my TikTok Real Housewives of Providence, ‘They’re filming a Real Housewives of Rhode Island, no one is supposed to know about it yet, but keep an eye on social media there might be an Instagram forthcoming.'”
At first, Chelsea said she took this information with a grain of salt. Then, she heard from a friend who was supposedly filming scenes for the show. She said the personalities so far are “fantastic.”
She explained, “I think it’s fun, I think it’ll show off at the very least great local businesses which I’m definitely all for.”
Is there any truth to the rumor about The Real Housewives of Rhode Island?
So far, all of the information about this Housewives show in production is coming from this one random lady on TikTok. That doesn’t lend itself much credibility.
With that in mind, the NBC affiliate contacted the Rhode Island Film and Television Office to see if any production companies were setting up shop in the Ocean State. They hadn’t heard anything about this.
In the past, reports about Housewives shows in production have been false. For example, when fans claimed that there was a Housewives show getting ready to launch in New Orleans, Andy Cohen explained why that wasn’t the case.
“There was just a rumor about Real Housewives of New Orleans and I happen to know that there is a production company who we work with all the time, who was just casting women in New Orleans to see if there was a show to be done in New Orleans. I think they are pitching it to Bravo,” Andy explained. “This wasn’t Bravo seeking out.”
For now, the only show we know for sure that is in the works is The Real Housewives of London. Hayu, the international equivalent to Bravo, confirmed that the show was in the works with a 2025 premiere date. Until we hear a similar announcement about Rhode Island, we can assume that this is all wishful thinking.
