Welcome back to Southern Charm Season 10! Before the holiday hiatus, Madison confronted JT over his gossiping. Madison admitted that her husband Brett called JT, but not because he thought they hooked up. She also repeated Craig’s rumor that JT called Miss Patricia a “b*tch,” which JT emphatically denied. JT apologized, but Madison had enough and didn’t accept. Meanwhile, we met Salley Carson, who previously dated Taylor’s new boyfriend Gaston. Salley alleges Gaston is a cheater, not unlike Taylor’s last boyfriend Shep. Get ready for the latest episode recap, “Sew Not Invited.”
What happened on Southern Charm Season 10, Episode 4?
The episode starts with Salley’s early morning routine before she heads to her impressive job. Salley feels great about her current independence, saying she doesn’t need a man for anything. She doesn’t even need one to have kids! Meanwhile, after he skipped the party last episode, Taylor wants people to meet Gaston before they judge him. Rodrigo says he should try to come to more events so they can get that chance.
Patricia celebrates her birthday in style, and claims martinis are the secret to youth. At the event, the guys lament how Craig’s ambitions to be Martha Stewart made him distant from the group. Craig’s friendships with Austen and Shep continue to fall apart. He and Austen attempt to hash it out, but can’t get on the same page.
Craig opens up to Austen and Shep
In the last episode, Austen and Shep complained that Craig doesn’t talk about his relationship enough. This week, he does, and their reaction illustrates why he probably holds back most of the time.
After a workout, Craig asks Austen and Shep if they want kids. And reveals that he and Paige decided to freeze sperm. A flashback shows that it was more his decision, as Paige seemed surprised. Craig laments that he doesn’t have the stable family life he thought he would at 35. But he’s sure the “feisty Italian from New York” is his person, so he can wait.
However, Shep and Austen interrogate him about waiting three or four years before having kids. To them, it’s entirely Paige’s decision, and Craig is just going along with her. Craig says that things have changed and that he’s not ready to have a kid right now, but his buddies don’t buy it.
This scene is extra interesting considering Paige and Craig just broke up. Judging by Paige’s comments, they made a mature mutual decision to split over differences regarding their future. So, I’m not buying the picture of her that Austen and Shep are selling!
Leva is Team JT
At least JT has a few people in his corner. Including Leva, who wasn’t happy to see him excluded from the party. Like Taylor, Leva can’t imagine JT using the b-word. As he explained last week, he did once as a child and then was reprimanded so hard he never did again.
Leva also has experience with Craig’s over-exaggerations, like the time he kicked her out years ago. JT blames Craig for ruining his friendship with Madison as well. Leva advises JT to give Craig a call. In a confessional, JT says Craig needs to walk back his claims.
Is Craig holding space for Austen?
Craig and Paige have a cute FaceTime exchange about him organizing his place. Their banter reminds us why they became a fan-favorite couple. Now I’m sad about the split all over again.
Contrary to what Shep and Austen believe about her, Paige doesn’t tell Craig what to do. Instead, she emphasizes that she wants him to choose what makes him happy with his space. Craig isn’t sure he wants one room to just be a podcast studio anymore. He and Paige both express how much better it would be if Craig and Austen recorded their podcast in person. But in a confessional, Craig says Austen is usually too hungover to do that. “His priority is his social life, which is fine,” Craig says. But he emphasizes, “Mine is work.”
Madison gets an update on Brett’s health
Madison, Brett, and Hudson go golfing. She says Hudson is turning into a “little punk” and worries he won’t want to hang out with her soon. So, she’ll pretend to like golf to secure as much mom/son quality time as she can get.
As Hudson plays, Madison asks Brett about his health. It doesn’t hurt Brett as much to swallow anymore. However, he got a biopsy of a spot on his kidney. Madison is concerned, as she thought they were in the clear. She also pleads with Brett to tell her everything. It’s something he’s not used to because he doesn’t want to be a burden. According to both him and Madison, this comes from being in a big family.
“When you’re one of eight, I think you just kinda deal with things at your own pace,” she theorizes. Things are different now that he has a wife and stepson. “Anything that happens to him happens to us,” she says. She makes him pinky swear to keep her informed of everything in the future. And jokes that he better not be hiding a sister wife.
Miss Patricia celebrates her birthday
Whitney throws a birthday dinner for his mom, inviting Austen, Shep, Eddie, and Ryan. When Madison shows up, she gets emotional over the impact Patricia’s had as a “second mother.” However, when talking about Austen’s girlfriend Audrey, Patricia says it’s good he’s not with a drama queen anymore…indicating that Madison is one. Austen and Madison joke that maybe Audrey is his Brett.
Craig’s absence at the celebration is notable. Patricia thought he would be out of town, but he came back that day. Shep says that Craig needs to make more of an effort to be a part of the group. Whitney agrees, saying that before Easter, he hadn’t seen Craig in six months. Austen sees him more because of their podcast but laments that their friendship has become more of a business. Shep calls Craig a “figurehead,” claiming Jerry actually does the hard work.
Whitney agrees that Craig is cultivating an image. He prefers the old Craig, who was “more interesting” when drinking heavily. Madison has the same reaction to this comment as I did. She defends Craig for trying to improve himself. Unsurprisingly, Shep blames “shrewd businesswoman” Paige for Craig being less of a goofball. Austen is just glad others agree with him.
Austen and Craig have it out
The next day, Craig confronts Shep about everyone talking behind his back. Austen goes over to Craig’s place, knowing he’s walking into a hornet’s nest. Craig is upset he wasn’t invited and says it’s unfair to talk about his absence in that case. Austen argues Craig has himself to blame.
Craig says they don’t hang out more because Austen doesn’t reach out. But Austen stopped because Craig was too busy. For instance, Craig once canceled golf to garden. Then posted his gardening routine to Instagram, which Austen saw as a slight. To Craig, it was a business move, since he’s coming out with a gardening line. Craig reiterates that business is fun to him now. “Making money, getting healthy, and f*cking my girlfriend, that’s what I want to do,” he crassly states.
Craig and Austen butt heads in dueling confessionals. Craig says Austen just misses his drinking buddy. Austen replies, no, he misses grabbing food and watching “the match” with Craig too. Craig says he’d do that if they went to each other’s houses. Austen argues that’s not true, because Craig only went to his house three times, and that’s “f*cking weird.”
“Our friendship will never look like it used to,” Craig says. “That’s fine,” Austen starts before Craig interrupts. “What would you like from me?” Craig asks. Austen just smirks. “I understand that times change,” he says, “but you keep those friends that you were here with as you flourish, like, those are the friends you want to keep closest.” Ultimately, Craig tells Austen he can either swim or leave. Austen leaves, and Craig swims. And that’s that.
