When Season 1 of Deal or No Deal Island debuted, viewers didn’t know what to expect. This new series put a twist on the original, and beloved, Deal or No Deal. This time, players were sent to the Banker’s private island. The reason? Scattered across this island was $200 million inside briefcases.
Players competed in challenges to increase the value of the final case. The last player left in the game competed against the Banker for the cash prize in the final case. Meanwhile, every night, one contestant selected by the challenge winner, faced the Banker at the Temple. If they made a good deal, they stayed in the game and selected someone else to leave. However, if their deal was bad, they were eliminated from the game.
The only time that players earned money along the way was if they accepted a special cash bonus from the Banker. Sometimes, that meant that the player must leave the competition immediately.
This season features 14 players, including reality TV vets Parvati Shallow, David Genat, and Dr. Will Kirby. Of course, the strategic gameplay will be next level. So, what do loyal viewers want to see on Deal or No Deal Island Season 2?
Deal or No Deal Island Season 2 needs crazier challenges
Once again, host Joe Manganiello is ready to explain the challenges and guide the players. He is also the Banker’s intermediary, taking those diabolical calls at the Temple.
Last season, contestants had to pull out rods from boxes filled with snakes. They also had to trudge and swim in mud to retrieve cases. Later on, they had to follow a rope through a swamp to find their case. It was physical, grueling, and creepy.
However, one of the most memorable challenges was when contestants were pulled up into the tree canopy. Then they flew down, headfirst, towards a game board on the ground. Each contestant had to drop their sandbag on a spot on the board. There were shouts of excitement and actual tears. Finally, there was a cast-wide argument when one player tried to back out of a plan to force another, Kim Mattina, from the game.
For the second season, viewers want to see more spine-tingling, icky creatures in the challenges. And I am not a fan! Plus, finding new ways to incorporate strategy into the games makes them more dynamic. And adding the element of chance always pumps up the volume during a competition. These newbie players have already watched Season 1, so the challenges need to be more difficult and totally different from the first season.
Deal or No Deal Island Season 2 needs clues about the Banker’s identity
During Season 1, the identity of the Banker was a secret until Jordan Fowler won the final challenge. Then, she opened a briefcase and lit a flare. That was the signal for the Banker that his ultimate opponent had been chosen. When his helicopter landed, the Banker was none other than Howie Mandel. Totally fitting, right?
However, this time there is another twist. Howie is not acting as the Banker for the second season. For Season 2, a female Banker will be in charge of the game. The possibilities are endless for what could be coming down the pike for the new season.
Immediately, I started wondering who it could be. And that made me think of a possible improvement for Season 2. Why not leave some clues to the Banker’s identity as part of the challenges? Or as a special reward?
While it might not seem like a big deal, it gives the fans at home a chance to guess along with the players. Most fans of reality competition shows like to feel like they have a part in the process. Much like Survivor and The Traitors, viewers can’t vote for their favorites on Deal or No Deal Island. So, this is one way to include fans, while still keeping the guessing game going at camp.
A Deal or No Deal Island showmance to liven up camp
Last season, there were no romances on Deal or No Deal Island. Instead, we had the epic bromance of Aron Barbell and Survivor legend, “Boston” Rob Mariano. They comforted each other, they argued, and they forgave each other. It was magical.
However, reality TV fans know that a good showmance can make a show more interesting. Dancing with the Stars is known for its showmances, as is Survivor. So, why not Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island?
In the preview for the second season, one contestant said, “I’m playing Deal or No Deal Island, and I’m playing Love Island – together.” Then Joe weighed in as he took in the duo’s PDA. “I feel like I’m a chaperone,” he remarked.
Still, Parvati is there with her ability to captivate others with her charm, as seen on Survivor multiple times. There could be a completely fake romance on the horizon. After all, she earned the moniker “The Black Widow.”
Hopefully, these changes will make Deal or No Deal Island Season 2 even more electrifying!
Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island will debut on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC with a special two-hour premiere. All episodes will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.
