Welcome back to the Southern Charm Season 10 recaps! Last week, Taylor turned 30 but wasn’t in a celebratory mood. She canceled her party, so Craig and Paige threw one in their backyard. At the party, Salley spilled the beans on her ex, and Taylor’s current beau, Gaston. She told Paige and Madison that Gaston called her, which alarmed Rodrigo. JT texted Craig to hash things out. Craig agreed, even though he knew it would piss Austen off.
What happened on Southern Charm Season 10 Episode 6, “Making A Splash?”
Craig and JT talk things out, but Austen takes their meetup as a personal slight. It doesn’t help that Craig wants to rebrand their podcast as a solo effort. Salley throws a housewarming party and invites Taylor. Things take a dramatic turn when Venita takes a dip in the pool.
JT and Craig finally talk it out
Craig still insists that JT called Patricia a bitch. Once again, editors show the actual footage, of JT just saying that Pat didn’t take the cane. Craig is insistent that it’s what he heard. But JT holds his ground. Since we have the literal footage of what he said, this conflict can’t sustain itself much longer.
For now, they agree to disagree. JT says, “He is the one spreading lies, gossip, and slander about me, and I know it. So it’s hard to hold back and show restraint.” He continues, “But I know it’s the only way, it’s the key to unlocking the truth to ultimately come out. And it’s going to. I believe that firmly,” he points to the heavens. Craig suggests they could go fishing with Shep sometime.
Molly and Shep’s flirty run-in
Shep is driving around and notices Molly, who stopped by a no-kill animal shelter to take an adoptable dog for a walk. As they sit and talk, Shep mentions that he was stunned by her good looks when he saw her. He says that must happen a lot, and she replies less so these days. Flashback to Whitney saying that cupcake sandwich was “the last thing you need.” I wish the others gave Whitney more smoke for that comment!
Molly laments dating in Charleston, where all the men have Peter Pan syndrome. That’s an accurate way of describing the guys on this show! She says they want a young girl who won’t ask questions. “I’m gonna question them on everything!”
Shep is impressed that Molly plays the miniature tuba. They have what appears to be a flirty exchange about it. Molly thinks he’s handsome, so there’s mutual attraction. But Shep is currently dating Sienna. Although Molly wonders what they could have in common given the age gap. I really like Molly, and hope we see more of her this season. I think she could do much better than Shep, but at least he didn’t body shame her like Whitney. And I have to admit, they have chemistry.
Austen makes moves toward the future, but can’t get past his issues with JT
Austen introduces his parents to Audrey. He waited four months, which is restraint for him. We flashback to the other times he introduced exes like Chelsea to his parents, only to break up a couple months later. He says he’s working on intentionality and making moves with the future in mind. Austen also reflects on the past mistakes he’s made in relationships. Cue that “Madisonnnn” video.
Speaking of, Austen gets a call from Madison. She is pissed that Craig had coffee with JT. Austen takes this as a personal betrayal.
Honestly, this storyline is frustrating and weighing down the whole season. It’s all based on a misunderstanding and a rumor that most of the cast admitted they don’t believe. Doesn’t it feel like a waste of time? I’m not surprised that JT quit the show.
Salley invites the Southern Charm cast (including Taylor) to her housewarming
Taylor has dinner with Rodrigo and Tyler to make up for canceling her party. While there, she tells them how surprised she was to get a call from Salley. She invited Taylor to her housewarming. Taylor decides to go, but she insists to Rodrigo that Salley called Gaston, instead of the other way around.
As she prepares for the housewarming, Salley recalls how she found out her ex-fiancé cheated on her less than a month before the wedding. Was this the engagement she called off before she went on The Bachelor? Regardless, it made her realize she wanted to provide for herself. She didn’t think about buying a house until her rent went up. Then her friend found this three-bedroom, with an in-ground pool, and she fell in love.
She also fell for Andrew, her current beau, and another one of Taylor’s exes. Salley says he’s way different from her usual type. She usually likes banker guys. When Shep meets Andrew, he’s not impressed. He says he doesn’t get Taylor’s taste in guys. Aside from himself, of course.
Taylor and Salley have it out
At first, Taylor avoids Salley. She has an awkward exchange with Shep, who wishes her a belated birthday. And she says hi to Andrew, whom she calls “very strange.” Taylor claims that he wanted to be exclusive with her, but was still hooking up with other girls.
Eventually, the two women sit down and chat. Taylor chides Salley for talking so much about Gaston, claiming the two just had a fling. Salley calls it a “horrible relationship,” and Taylor once again insists, “It was a fling.” But, as Salley said last week, she and Gaston exchanged I love yous. When Madison asks Andrew about the phone call, he says Salley was in tears. And he held her for “like thirty seconds.” Who says chivalry is dead?
Salley also claims people warned her not to trust Taylor. While Rodrigo praised her as a great friend, it’s true that others aren’t Taylor’s biggest fans. She even admits she messed up last year. Salley promises to stop talking about Gaston. But Taylor doesn’t trust anything Salley says.
Venita makes a splash
Leva suggests Venita jump in the pool. She does, but very quickly, she appears to be drowning. Craig dives right in to save her. Venita says she swallowed some water and that’s why she had trouble breathing. She also admits that she was probably too drunk to jump in the pool. Venita wraps herself in a towel, while Craig gets to wear one of Andrew’s shirts.
Molly misses the scary moment and arrives at the party four hours late. She was at a dress rehearsal for the concert and blew her solo. Shep asks when her concert is, and she invites the group.
Craig and Austen break up
Paige encourages Craig to branch out on his own with the podcast. Craig said he wanted to pump the brakes last week. However, he is also hesitant because he doesn’t like the “finality.” As Madison said to her husband Brett, everyone thought Craig and Austen would be the one couple who never broke up.
Things get worse at Salley’s party, where Craig and Shep are confronted about maybe fishing with JT. Even Whitney, who admitted he doesn’t think JT called his mom a bitch, and knows about the handwritten apology letter, gets in on it. Rodrigo isn’t JT’s biggest fan, but he’s still confused why Craig has to explain himself to Austen.
JT feels like an excuse and/or alibi Austen can use to be angrier with Craig. He keeps getting brought up at group events that he’s excluded from, so he can’t defend himself. And they just talk about him the entire time. Six episodes in, we’ve long since exceeded the limitations of this storyline. We can’t keep this same pattern up for the rest of the season.
However, Craig stops waffling and makes a bold move that should move the season’s conflicts along. After saving Venita, Craig asks if Austen can sign over Pillows & Beer to him. And that’s how we end this week’s episode.
