Why It’s Important Southern Charm’s Patricia Altschul Defends JT Thomas

The matriarch of Southern Charm has made it her mission to educate the younger generation on the manners and expectations of the South. Twice divorced and once widowed, Patricia Altschul was starting to sound like a modern-day King Henry VIII. But the Charmers took her under their wings just as she did for them. Once welcomed into the group, she became a mainstay for the series. So it was upsetting to watch JT Thomas miss the mark when it came to his cane joke. However, the 83-year-old is starting to show some forgiveness by proving that she will stick up for the underdog.

JT Thomas isn’t meant to be a comedian

Even though JT is no longer on Southern Charm, he is still causing quite the brouhaha. Shortly before the season premiered, JT took to his social media. He revealed to followers that he was over the politics and friendship circle. He took to Instagram to write, “It comes with a heavy heart to share that I have resigned from Southern Charm.” JT continued, “Yesterday, I informed Bravo that I would not participate in the 2-3 remaining green room interviews.” The move came as a surprise since JT seemed to bond well during Season 9. Some fans even thought he had a good reality TV vibe.

JT revealed, “While I work on the next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has been an extremely challenging and exhausting year.” JT was said to be getting a lot of heat. This was due to having a storyline revolving around his feelings for Venita Aspen. Season 10 has shown the duo becoming extremely close as friends. During the season premiere, JT even acknowledged he had feelings for Venita to the Bravo cameras. His decision to leave the series came around the same time he announced his relationship with his new girlfriend, Ali Pereless.

During a recent episode of Southern Charm, Craig Conover stirred the pot by throwing his frenemy into the deep end. While at a birthday dinner to celebrate the socialite, the Sewing Down South founder implied JT had called Patricia a “b*tch.” Obviously, fans knew that JT had never used that word, let alone ever muttered the inflammatory word since his mother smacked him as a child for muttering it.

Now, Ms. Pat is taking to her Instagram to fix an injustice. Naturally, she had trusted Craig’s recounting of the story, telling her son in a scene that she would no longer have “close interactions” with JT after the cane incident. Whitney Sudler Smith, however, wasn’t sold on Craig’s version. In a confessional, he noted, “I don’t think JT is the kind of person who would call a woman a b*tch, and throughout the years, Craig has had a tenuous relationship with reality and the truth.” As flashbacks played in fans’ heads, it became obvious Craig was just looking to cause some trouble.

JT Thomas might have an ally in Patricia Altschul

But after watching a recent Southern Charm episode, Patricia has had a change of heart. Let’s be honest, evidence also helps. While on social media, she declared JT innocent. The property manager has been working hard to clear his name, so he must feel vindicated. While the odd clip played on the post, Patricia wrote, “When my scene was filmed, I still believed that JT had called me the B-word. Now, after seeing the latest episodes, I don’t think he did.”

It’s important that Patricia spoke up about the judgment passed on JT. The man already has a bad rap and has been finding it hard to win over fans. But with Patricia on his side, he should be moving up in the standings, even if it’s just a little bit. Even if the Queen of Charleston still isn’t a fan of his comic theory, she knows when she is wrong and is not above making things right. Thanks to the Season 10 preview, fans know Craig will eventually get called out for his part in the misunderstanding. JT is shown saying, “Craig, you lied, and you offended Ms. Patricia. I didn’t say that word about her.” “Yeah, you did,” Craig insisted. “You said she was a b*tch at the cup when you handed her the cane.” The scene then shows Craig storming off, telling his friends, “F*ck you guys.”

Southern Charm is available to stream on Peacock.
