Bachelor Grant Ellis Wants ‘Maturity’ From Future Wife: ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’

After healing from his Bachelorette heartbreak, Grant Ellis is ready for another shot at love. He’s the lead of Season 29 of The Bachelor, and the former basketball player is taking this opportunity extremely seriously. He has zero time for funny business.

Ahead of tonight’s premiere, Grant made it very clear that he spent his time on the show looking for love — not searching for America’s next reality TV star. Any “gossiping” from the ladies was an immediate red flag.

For us, that unfortunately means this season might be super boring. For Grant, this was probably a good thing, because he was able to focus on finding a genuine match.

Grant Ellis had zero time for drama on Season 29 of The Bachelor

In an interview with People, Grant opened up about his approach to dating on reality TV. He compared the process to a game of chess and wanted to be very intentional with each elimination. If a girl was being messy for the cameras, she probably didn’t get a rose.

“It’s really easy for somebody to tell you what they want, but I think that actions speak louder than words,” Grant explained. “I think that there’s a certain maturity level that comes with wanting a family and wanting a long-lasting relationship, so I think that maturity was something that I looked for in these women.”

He continued, “And if they’re starting drama, or if they’re gossiping, or if they’re doing certain things, that just indicates a lack of maturity.”

Gossiping wasn’t the only red flag Grant had his eye out for. He also wasn’t interested in anybody who seemed “too self-absorbed,” which probably ruled out at least half of the competitors. You have to be a little self-absorbed to sign up for a show like this, right?

“For me, a red flag is somebody who’s too self-absorbed,” Grant revealed. “I like when somebody’s compassionate and somebody has a heart for other people because that’s the way I am, so I feel like it has to mesh with how I feel. And then hygiene is a big thing for me, too!”

Basically, if you brush your teeth, mind your own business, and show some basic empathy skills, then you might have a chance with Grant. Stay tuned to see if he finds a girl who checks all of those boxes.

The Bachelor premieres Monday, January 27 at 8/7c on ABC.
