Bachelor Grant Ellis ‘Really Grateful’ for Opportunity To Lead the Show: ‘Like a Therapy Session’

Some people desperately need therapy after reality TV, but Grant Ellis had the opposite experience. According to the former basketball player, filming The Bachelor actually felt like therapy.

At first glance, we know that might sound like a red flag. Why would dating a bunch of women on television feel like therapy? However, Grant recently explained how the process of finding love on reality TV forced him to confront his emotions.

We first met Grant during Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette. That was like a practice run. in an interview with Decider, Grant explained how leading The Bachelor allowed him to show even more of his vulnerable side.

“I’m really happy. I couldn’t imagine it being any other way now that I’m going through this process and learning about myself,” Grant told the outlet. “Everything that’s been unfolding in my life, and the lessons that I’ve learned — I’m really grateful.”

In this interview, they used the word “journey” no fewer than 50 times. That’s how you know it’s serious. The Bachelor was an emotional journey for Grant because it allowed him to open up about his dad’s sobriety journey.

Grant explained, “This journey did so many things for me. It was like a therapy session for me in terms of me rekindling my relationship with my dad and just finding myself. So there were a lot of positives to it.”

According to Grant, filming the show made him realize that he “suppressed his emotions” throughout his life. You can’t do that on The Bachelor, so he’s been forced to confront his feelings head-on.

“But in this journey, I learned that I think it’s really a strength to show how you feel, and to do it at the right moment, and know when to do it. That’s what I learned about myself, and I think that I’m still growing in that department,” Grant explained.

Will all of this self-reflection lead him to the woman of his dreams? Only time will tell. We’re rooting for him, though.

The Bachelor airs new episodes on ABC on Mondays at 8/7c.
