The issue of Scheana Shay’s name came up again. What with the upcoming release of her memoir, My Good Side, it seemed fitting to revisit the Vanderpump Rules alum’s past and why exactly she kept her ex-husband’s last name.
Scheana and Mike Shay were married in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2017. She is now married to Brock Davies, but legally goes by Shay. The Valley star wed her current husband in 2021 and kept the marriage under wraps. A year later, the couple had a lavish wedding in Cancun before family and friends.
Scheana Shay said her last name is the thing that “people ask about the most”
The Good As Gold singer addressed the issue during the January 31 episode of her Scheananigans podcast. Scheana is unapologetic about the decision and explains her reasoning.
“So, I don’t know how many times I’m going to have to address this, but no matter how many times I do, I feel like it’s still probably one of the things people ask about the most,” she said. “I have built a professional career as Scheana Shay… It was like, do I go back to Scheana Marie? I tried, [but] it wasn’t really sticking. [Scheana Shay] was the name I was going by professionally.”
Perhaps it was just an issue of paperwork. But the Bravolebrity stressed that she thought her marriage to Mike was forever. And as such, pushed ahead with business and professional ventures using the surname Shay while still wed. Simply put, her “brand” stuck as Scheana Shay.
In retrospect, Scheana may have kept her maiden name
“I mean, my businesses, my retirement, my will, my trust, my houses, my everything is tied up in this name,” Scheana explained. “So if I could go back in time, I don’t know, maybe I would have never even changed my name to Scheana Shay, professionally, because then I’m altering my professional name around a man who I’m obviously no longer with. But I was young. I believed in forever and the prospect of divorce wasn’t even on my mind. I took my vows seriously, you know, for better or worse.”
However, where it counts, Scheana goes by Davies. Her friends and family call her “Scheana Davies.” More importantly, Brock is unbothered by the issue.
“I am Scheana Davies, I am Mrs. Davies. We are the Davies family,” she stressed. “It genuinely does not bother Brock that I use this name. And also, I did recently have lunch with [Mike] and I asked him point blank. And it does not bother him either. So if it doesn’t bother the ex-husband, it doesn’t bother the current husband, again, I don’t know why it bothers all of you.”
