Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp is finally opening up about the end of her 13-year marriage to Edwin Arroyave, revealing that their relationship faced hurdles long before they officially split.
The two separated late last year amid reports alleging that she was riding her married horse trainer. In a recent interview, Teddi shared more about the issues she and Edwin had been facing for years prior, including reminding everyone that he actually cheated first.
Teddi Mellencamp explained that once Edwin was ready to work on things, she was already “checked out”
Teddi reflected on the highs and lows of their marriage on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show. “Me and Edwin had some of the most amazing years and the most amazing times. When we met it was hot and it was all the things. And then there would be somebody else,” she confessed.
“And I’d be like, ‘It’s okay, I’m gonna work through it, I’m gonna make him love me more!’ Then you have kids and things happen,” The Two Ts in a Pod host continued.
Teddi admitted that as time went on and their family grew, their relationship dynamic shifted. While Edwin later wanted to work on things, she had already emotionally distanced herself. “I would say probably at the point where Edwin was like, ‘I am ready to start working on our marriage,’ I had already stopped,” she confessed. “But I never told him I was checked out. I think that’s the problem.”
She went on, “It wasn’t an overnight thing; it wasn’t a one-year thing. It wasn’t a two-year thing; it was a long time of fear and resentment and all the different things that build up.” While she recognized Edwin’s efforts to make changes in his life, she couldn’t shake feelings of “resentment or animosity or fear of ever being open again.”
Teddi said she tried to project an image of a perfect marriage during her time on RHOBH. “I was trying to portray this perfect life that ultimately wasn’t real,” she admitted.
The couple share three children—Slate, 12, Cruz, 9, and Dove, 4. They filed for divorce in November, citing irreconcilable differences. Teddi listed their separation date as October 20.
Sources claimed Teddi’s affair with Simon Schroeder began in May and continued despite promises to end it. Simon’s wife, Karli Postel, reportedly discovered messages between them, leading to confrontations and eventually informing Edwin of what was going on.
Teddi is dating again and has been spending time couch-surfing at her bestie Kyle Richards’ house. However, she says her main focus is prioritizing personal growth and being a mom. “I just want to be the best version of myself,” she said.
