Jessel Taank Defends Rebecca Minkoff’s RHONY Performance: ‘Wasn’t Given a Safe Space To Be Herself’

Here’s a hot take from Jessel Taank. According to the Real Housewives of New York star, Rebecca Minkoff’s Season 15 performance suffered because she just couldn’t be herself. From questions about Scientology to her ongoing feud with Brynn Whitfield, Jessel thinks Rebecca never had a fair shot at Bravo stardom.

Rebecca Minkoff couldn’t find her “safe space” on RHONY

Shortly after the Season 15 reunion aired, Rebecca confirmed that she would be leaving RHONY after one measly season as a friend. Some RHONY fans cheered. Others felt unsurprised. Either way, Jessel opened up about the departure during a recent episode of SiriusXM’s It’s Me, Tinx. She doesn’t think Rebecca got a chance to really shine.

“I don’t think she was given a fair ride,” Jessel said of her one-and-done co-star. ”I just, I feel like she wasn’t given a safe space to be herself.”

For example, Jessel said that Brynn “attacked” the fashion designer from “day one” which put her into a “shell.” Then, while the season was filming, Sai De Silva called Rebecca boring during an embarrassing hot mic incident. None of that created a foundation for a warm and fuzzy welcome into the friend group.

Jessel explained, “Like, even for myself when, you know, I was doing the first season and you sort of see all these things play out and you get all this like, weird energy from people, I went into a shell too. So I can definitely like relate to that especially when it comes to her.”

In that same vane, Jessel felt like Rebecca never had a “safe space” to talk about her background as a Scientologist. Jessel felt like Rebecca was open to “smart, intelligent questions” about the controversial religion. However, those opportunities didn’t present themselves how Rebecca had hoped.

“I think maybe on her part she went into it a little bit naïve that it wouldn’t get brought up,” Jessel admitted. “But it absolutely did get brought up. I mean, from day one. And I just think that we started on the wrong foot with it.”

The Real Housewives of New York is streaming on Peacock.
