Why Heidi Montag Wouldn’t Be the Right Fit for Real Housewives

From 2005 to 2010, most millennials invested in The Hills. More specifically, the friendship between Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad. The reality TV stars broke any sense of empathy we had left when we watched Luaren tell Heidi, “I wanna forgive you, and I want to forget you.” That was the gut punch heard around the world. Now, as an adult, tiny breadcrumbs have been left, leading to the idea of Heidi appearing on the Real Housewives franchise. And as much as I appreciate what Heidi can do on the small screen, that is a hard no for me.

Heidi Montag wanted to be a Real Housewives star

There is no doubt that Heidi is a star in her own right. In 2011, she truly believed she had what it took to be a member of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. So, she tweeted Andy Cohen to inform him. While on Watch What Happens Live, he called her “trash.” And added, “I would sooner stab … knives into my own eyes than see her on this network.” Andy even named Heidi his “Jackhole of the week.” At the time, the I’ll Do It performer slammed the Bravo kingpin’s response as “tasteless” and “hurtful and completely unnecessary.”

But Heidi always felt it made sense for her to be a part of the RHOBH or the Real Housewives of Orange County because she is now a mom of two. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she felt Andy’s personal opinion had been what kept her from sinking her teeth into a juicy orange or donning a diamond. She said, “I think so. He made a statement a while ago that he would never want me on it and that I wasn’t for their franchise, but I think that he’s so wrong.” But as we know, Andy is never wrong. Just like he was right about CNN letting him drink on NYE, he was right about Heidi.

Heidi Montag is collateral damage thanks to Spencer Pratt

Spencer Pratt is perceived as one of the biggest villains in reality TV history. Whether or not he is a changed man is not up for debate. The fact remains people either love or loathe Spencer. Even though Spencer might be seen as the anti-hero right now due to his coverage of the Pacific Palisades fires, fans haven’t forgotten just how nasty he has been over the years. For example, in 2004, he sold photos of Mary-Kate Olsen to In Touch magazine with the headline Teens Gone Wild.

The squeaky-clean Full House star was allegedly drunk and high. At the time, Spencer claimed to have sold the photos for $50,000. Years later, in an interview, Mary-Kate said, “He does not have a good temper.” Fast forward to 2023, when Spencer told The Hollywood Reporter that Heidi would be too good for Bravo. He said, “I know that’s my love for her, but I truly think she’d upstage all these basic ladies.” Yuck, I can’t get Lauren’s voice saying, “He’s a SUCKY PERSON!” out of my head.

The ship has sailed for Heidi Montag

Recently, a fan inquired if the couple would ever go to the Bravo clubhouse. The question stirred up a raw emotion in Spencer, who replied on Twitter, “the person who said he would rather scratch his eyes out then watch my wife … hard pass.” It’s interesting that fans don’t often hear what Heidi has to say in answers to most of the questions. I imagine that is how it would also be if Heidi was ever put on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It would seem plausible that Spencer would step in and overstep to solidify another 15 minutes of fame for himself. We aren’t interested in you, Spence. If anything, we want to hear Heidi’s ideas.

But I doubt the rumors will ever be more than gossip. Heidi (and Spencer) seem content at milking their fame wherever they can, minus the Bravosphere. Currently, The Hills star is enjoying watching her 2008 album, Superficial make a resurgence on the charts. Whether or not Heidi ever gets an invite, I think it is safe to say she will still land on her feet. Who knows, maybe there will be another reboot of The Hills in the works soon…

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is available to stream on Peacock.
