Annemarie Wiley was a one-and-done on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Her main storyline consisted around Sutton Stracke’s esophagus. Fans felt Annemarie was boring and brought little to the group. The one good thing she did was help Crystal Kung Minkoff find her voice when the mother of two yelled at the newbie. Annemarie departed the 90210 series after Season 13. But now she is back on followers’ radar thanks to a brand new lawsuit she has decided to file.
The drama started on RHOBH
During her time on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Annemarie proudly talked about her career in the medical field. But some of her costars felt like she was misrepresenting herself. She told her new friends that her job title was Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). During an episode of the RHOBH Aftershow, Annemarie shared, “A nurse anesthetist is an RN that practices anesthesia, and an anesthesiologist is an MD that practices anesthesiology. So we do the same practice. We have the same scope of practice. We just get there two different paths.” However, the American Society of Anesthesiologists took issue with some of her comments.
In January 2024, Annemarie took to her Instagram to clap back and defend herself. She wrote, “I do not condone the ASA defamation campaign. I’m a CRNA, a certified registered nurse anesthetist. I am extremely proud of my profession. I will not be accused of title misappropriation because a cast mate needed a storyline on a reality TV show,” she continued. “This is my real life and my career. I am not an anesthesiologist nor have I ever claimed to be one. I have immense respect for physician anesthesiologists, and I ask that the ASA and other Anesthesiologists show respect to CRNAs as well. This type of unhealthy discourse only causes friction and professional division.”
Annemarie Wiley’s new lawsuit explained
Annemarie has decided to file a defamation lawsuit against the American Society of Anesthesiologists a year after the kerfuffle. The 41-year-old again took to her social media to share the reason behind her decision. In a lengthy post, she wrote, “I have recently filed a lawsuit against the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) because of their public smear campaign against me stemming from their IG post during my time as a cast member on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I continue to experience significant harm from their false and defamatory IG post about me. While I have not publicly disclosed my lawsuit, I am now aware of the ASA’s decision to publicize on their website my lawsuit against them.”
Annemarie went on to write, “Let me be clear — my lawsuit is solely about the ASA’s malicious, false, targeted, and defamatory statements about me. I have always proudly, publicly, and consistently stated that I am a CRNA. I have never stated that I am an anesthesiologist or a medical doctor during my time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or otherwise.”
The ASA released their own statement against Annemarie Wiley
The former athlete continued, “This is not a debate over professional titles, despite the ASA’s attempts to now mischaracterize it as such. This is about holding the ASA accountable for its shameful and blatant lies … I trust that the truth will come to light through the proper channels. Defamation has no place in health care,” Annemarie concluded. It is clear Annemarie isn’t going down without a fight. But many Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans recall her claim in an episode that she was an anesthesiologist.
The medical organization took it upon themselves to release the news that they were being sued on January 16, 2025. Its title read “American Society of Anesthesiologists to Vigorously Defend Against Lawsuit Filed by Former Cast Member of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” The release then added, “A lawsuit was recently filed against the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) by a former cast member of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. ASA intends to vigorously defend against the claims. The use of incorrect medical titles has no place in health care.”
The ASA added, “Doing so confuses patients who have the right to know the education, skills, and qualifications of their health care professionals. As the leading advocate for patient safety, ASA and our members want all patients to understand the difference between licensed medical doctors, who specialize in anesthesiology, and other members of the Anesthesia Care Team or other anesthesia health care professionals.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is available to stream on Peacock.
