After watching dozens of seasons of Top Chef and Below Deck, we all know that chefs can be a little cranky when they’re in the kitchen. Their food might be brilliant, but their personalities? Sometimes, they just need some work. That’s where Martha Stewart comes in. She and José Andrés are hosting a new series called Yes Chef!, which will challenge the contestants’ cooking skills and their temperaments.
Martha Stewart and José Andrés are delivering tough love on Yes, Chef!
According to a press release, this upcoming show is produced by the same Emmy-award-winning producers behind Top Chef. Martha and José are also teaming up as executive producers, so we’re in good hands here.
The show’s synopsis teases that it will mix the “high-stakes thrill of a cooking competition with the raw emotions of personal transformation.” We know that sounds a little dramatic, but the twelve contestants were nominated by their bosses, co-workers, and loved ones for the competition. Their loved ones feel like the chefs can’t reach their full potential because of their problematic personalities.
With that in mind, this show is like a charm school for chefs. The contestants are said to have big egos, stubbornness, and short fuses that have made them culinary nightmares. Right off hand, we can think of at least two former Below Deck chefs who fit that description.
The synopsis explained, “With humor and tough love, José and Martha will guide the chefs each week through a series of intense culinary challenges designed to test and overcome their personal issues.”
The chef who can dazzle the judges with their cooking skills while also improving their behavior will get a $250,000 grand prize. Whether their loved ones notice any behavioral differences after the cameras go down? That’s a different story.
Yes, Chef! premieres on Monday, April 28 at 10/9c on NBC.
