Rachel Lindsay Reflects on Losing Social Media Followers: ‘The More I Would Speak Out…’

Rachel Lindsay doesn’t know how to be anything other than herself. And she is committed to being herself — even if that results in fewer social media followers than her friends in Bachelor Nation. Rachel appeared on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor and went on to become The Bachelorette, marry, and divorce Brian Abasolo.

Rachel touched on social media and admitted that sometimes speaking out causes a loss of followers. However, she’s not going to let that deter her from being herself. If she loses followers because of it, then so be it.

Rachel Lindsay speaks out

She spoke her mind on the Higher Learning podcast. “Why do certain people have millions of followers and I don’t? I don’t fit in,” she shared. “I used to have more followers. The more I would speak out, the more I was myself, I would lose them. I will probably lose more when this comes out.”

An example of her sharing her truth on social media came after the Super Bowl. The Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron criticized Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show in a now-deleted post and Rachel replied, “You just don’t get it, friend.”

“When I say, ‘You don’t get it’, it’s also, ‘You don’t get me,’” she said. “That was met with comments of how people respond to me,” she added. “‘Here’s Rachel again, being angry, making it about race.’ No, it’s just obvious you didn’t get the performance. You weren’t trying to understand it.”

She added that it was okay not to like it or not know Kendrick’s songs, but to say it was the worst or that it was trash made her feel like people didn’t get it. “It also means you don’t get me because it was representative of the culture,” Rachel explained.

Indeed, Rachel has always been one to speak her mind. Whether it’s talking about “obnoxious Taylor Swift fans” or clapping back at her ex-husband’s spousal support request, what you see is what you get. Hence the lower follower count. The Super Bowl was just another confirmation for her.

“I lose followers every day. It is what it is,” she admitted. “I’m not for them and that moment kind of highlighted it for me.”

The Bachelorette is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
