Fans first met Ami Brown when the Alaskan Bush People aired back in 2014. The Brown family was quite unusual as they chose to live in the wilds of Alaska without little contact from the outside world. The Wolf Pack worked hard to live their lives in Alaska, and Ami Brown did her best to make a cozy homestead for her husband and children. Along the way, she has had some health scares, which have left the family worried. News broke this week that the matriarch had to be rushed to the hospital. Here’s what we know.
Ami Brown has been the Wolf Pack’s matriarch forever
In 2017, Alaskan Bush People watched as Ami was diagnosed with lung cancer. At the time, the star’s doctor told her that she had Stage III non-small cell lung cancer. The mother of seven was only given a 3% survival rate. The entire family was affected by her diagnosis, especially her husband, Billy Brown, who passed away in 2021. The series showed Ami going back to the mainland to go through surgery to remove cancer. The Browns were all filmed during this difficult time, and many could see that Ami was suffering.
During an emotional episode, Billy recalled watching his wife pass out and wondering if he would lose his Ami forever. However, as of 2020, Ami announced that she had beaten the odds and gone into remission. Her latest scans have shown no signs of the cancer’s return. Ami had to undergo intense chemotherapy and radiation. For the last few years, doctors have monitored her health to make sure the cancer does not return, and the family relocated to Washington State to be closer to better medical care.
Ami Brown’s health is in trouble
The Wolf Pack took to their social media a few days ago to reveal that their mother, Ami, had been airlifted to “a big big hospital” after suffering from chest pain. Bird Brown took to her TikTok to share some devastating news with followers. She told Alaskan Bush People fans “She went to the emergency room late last night and late, late after that, they did some tests.
“They actually medevaced her to the next big, big hospital. She was having some trouble breathing before she went into the Emergency Room. That’s actually why she went.”
Bird and Ami have always been extremely close, and it was obvious that the 29-year-old was struggling with her mother being sick.
She went on to add, “And so after they did a bunch of tests, I was talking to mom a little bit. They took a bunch of vials of blood. She’s okay, but she was having issues breathing, and it looks like she has pneumonia.” The eldest daughter also told fans, “I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know the terms and stuff, and I can’t remember everything. She’s been getting so sick so often because there’s been a lot of sicknesses in our area, and it just seems to hit mom really, really hard.”
The entire Wolf Pack is worried about Ami
At this moment, Bird began to cry, adding, “Basically, her lungs are really bad. They have put her in anesthesia so her body can rest and be working as little as possible. They’re going to try and keep her in that for about two days, just so her body can work as little as possible.” On Wednesday, Bird’s big brother, Bear Brown, also gave an emotional update about his mother. He noted, “It’s not the best news ever, but it could be worse,” and he shared that Ami started “getting worse, so they had to put a breathing tube in.”
The King of Extreme added that “they had to, like, knock her out to do it, and then they flew her to a larger town … with a better hospital, that’s where she is now. They are attempting to wake her up, but apparently, you don’t just wake people up immediately, it has to be done in stages or something, which is normal.”
The father of two noted that Ami had just slept over his house. But when she woke up, she had felt off but decided to go back to her house to try and rest.
Bear Brown shares good news about Ami
Bear added another update video where he shared that the doctors had tried again to remove the breathing tube and were successful. Bear smiled, sharing, “Mom is conscious. She’s able to talk to us over the phone. She still has to recover. She’s still at the hospital. They are going to hold her there for a few days. But they got the tube out guys and she is awake.”
Alaskan Bush People fans could see the relief on Bear’s face. It was clear he was worried about losing another parent. Bear made it clear that his mom still wasn’t out of the woods. He added, “That’s some scary stuff, you guys. Scary stuff.”
“One second you can call and talk to your mom. She can come over. And one second you just can’t. And I’ve been pretty concerned.” Bear then went on to thank fans for their concern and prayers. Ami was last seen on social media last Monday. The mother of seven posted a photo of her homestead mountain view, which she captured by writing “Summer 2024.”
