Survivor 48 kicks off with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Fans have been eager for details about the new season and thankfully, Jeff Probst has been candid about what viewers can expect. The beloved host has been busy promoting the premiere and revealed that fans will not be disappointed by Season 48.
Here’s everything Jeff teased about the new season.
Jeff says emotions are high on Survivor 48
In an interview with CBS Boston, Jeff teased that fans can expect to shed a few tears while watching the Survivor 48 premiere.
“You’re gonna cry in the first couple of minutes,” he said. “[It] seems crazy because you don’t even know these people, but the people we’re putting on are so dynamic and so interesting that you can quickly invest in their story.”
The host shared that emotions run high on Survivor 48, revealing that the drama begins the moment the castaways step off the boat.
“Every season does have a vibe. Last season, Survivor 47, was kind of like a slow burn,” he said. “[Season] 48 is not a slow burn. [Season] 48 hits it straight out the gate.”
Jeff says there are never-before-seen moments on Survivor 48
In the teaser trailer released earlier this month, viewers saw Jeff reference a “historic moment” that takes place this season. He spoke to Parade ahead of premiere where he revealed there are a few never-before-seen moments on Survivor 48.
“There are some moments that have never happened,” he shared. “When things go really well, and the environment and the situation lines up, you can have these moments that do transcend the show, and they show us who we are, and they remind us who we are.”
He appeared confident that fans will be pleased with the new season, telling the outlet, “I think Survivor 48 is going to satisfy on a lot of levels.”
Jeff says Survivor 48 is “dominated by partnerships”
Survivor is a social game, which means making the right alliances is a crucial part of winning the game. Immunity wins can only take a player so far. They need to develop a strong social game to take home the coveted million-dollar prize. In a February interview with TV Insider, Jeff shared that the upcoming season is all about alliances, teasing that fans can expect a high level of social strategy on Survivor 48.
“Season 48 had an unusual number of pairs that formed kind of quickly,” he told the outlet.
“I would categorize Survivor 48 as being dominated by partnerships,” he continued. “Some of the partnerships are very public, other partnerships are so secretive [that] they barely know they’re in a partnership. And the question always becomes, ‘When do I take you out?'”
He shared that not every pair remained loyal, telling TV Insider that “blindsides are at an all-time high” in the upcoming season.
“There are pairs that say, ‘Honor and integrity. I’m taking it old school. If I give you my word, you got it.’ And then there are other pairs going, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe you’re really going to give me your word and keep it because I will destroy you,'” he revealed.
Jeff says Survivor is “as good as it’s ever been” on Survivor 48
You would expect Survivor to lose some of its magic after 48 seasons but thankfully, that is not the case. The show continues to hold fans’ attention with new, innovative twists. The series evolves year after year and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
In his recent interview with Parade, Jeff praised the new season, telling the outlet the show is at its best.
“Survivor right now is as good as it’s ever been,” he said. “And I, I say that not with hubris, but with confidence that our storytelling is as good as we have ever been. Our casting is as good as it’s ever been. The game design is as good as it’s ever been… I think when we’re done with Survivor 48, I think you’re gonna say, ‘Jeff, you’re right. It lived up to everything you said.'”
Here’s hoping Jeff lives up to his word.
Survivor airs on CBS and Paramount Plus.
