When Rebecca Minkoff announced her exit from The Real Housewives of New York, most of us let out a huge sigh of relief. That show has enough issues. The last thing they needed was a lackluster friend bringing little to nothing to the show.
Now that the curtain has closed, Rebecca is getting candid about why she left the series after just one season. You’re probably thinking, “Wait, didn’t she already explain why she left the show?” Yes, she did. But now, she’s sharing even more reasoning behind the quick exit.
RHONY isn’t for everyone

Rumors about Rebecca getting the boot from RHONY started circulating before she made the official announcement. Eventually, she confirmed her departure from the series in a February 4 Instagram post. She said it was time to “turn the page” on this chapter.
She wrote, “2025 is a new beginning for me and with current events in the world, I am reminded [of] the importance of family, friends, and community now more than ever.”
In an interview with In Touch, the fashion designer and Scientologist went into more detail about her exit. She argued that she wasn’t accurately portrayed on the show. That’s what they all say, but we’ll hear her out.
“I think it was a number of things,” she told the outlet. “I think that the way in which I was portrayed is not who I am. It’s not who you see on Instagram or my podcast or if you see me speak or my book, that is not me, and that was really disappointing.”
Rebecca wants to chase “a feeling of positivity”

On top of Rebecca’s issues with her portrayal, she said that she wanted to chase “good feelings” and “good energy” in her life. We all know that The Real Housewives isn’t necessarily powered by good energy, so Rebecca said she wanted to get away from it.
“I also felt like I wanted to chase a feeling of positivity,” she said, before calling out the fact that she’s been helping raise money for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“That is a great feeling and chasing a feeling of feeling stabbed in the back, or mean girls or, again, media twisting my words, that doesn’t feel good, and I’m in a position where I can choose if I do it or not,” she continued.
Basically, Rebecca took a very roundabout way of saying that she simply wasn’t cut out for a show like RHONY. She does, however, still have an itch for reality TV. Next time, the project will be more “lifestyle-based” and about “supporting women.”
She warned, “I’ve had several ideas that I think, maybe now, people are ready for. I am in conversations with a couple of production companies.”
The Real Housewives of New York is streaming in Peacock.
