Zendaya poses for Louis Vuitton’s Murakami collection in new photo
On Wednesday, Zendaya shared Louis Vuitton’s latest campaign on her Instagram account. The striking campaign featured a collaboration between the French luxury brand and Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Through the collaboration, Vuitton and Murakami revived the Cherry Blossom motif from the early 2000s while making it contemporary.
Photographers Inez van Lamsweerds and Vinoodh Matadin shot Zendaya channeling a modern Y2K energy. The actor wore a pink Louis Vuitton silk scarf as a halter top and paired it with high-waisted gray denim jeans. She accessorized her ensemble with a reimagined version of the Capucines Mini bag from Louis Vuitton, featuring Murakami’s trademark cherry blossoms, besides other embellishments.
In addition to the ensemble, the actor’s long hair with intricate signature braids added a powerful touch to her look. The background with the soft hues of a sunset further complemented the cherry blossom accents, playfully blending fashion with art. Zendaya embodied the rendition carefully as she posed with a bold, sultry expression. She arched the arm holding the bag above her head to rest the prop on her other arm.
The reimagined collection tapped into the nostalgic affair between Murakami and Louis Vuitton’s first collaboration for the 2003 Monogram Multicolore collection. While talking to Vogue, Murakami highlighted Zendaya’s involvement, “It was supposed to be a capsule collection, pretty small, but when Zendaya appeared, I was like, wow!”
The artist further gushed, “Her power is completely different, the energy she has is on another level.” After two decades of the debut collaboration, having Zendaya in the foreground was thus an iconic addition to the cultural phenomenon.
According to WWD, the second drop from the Louis Vuitton × Murakami collaboration will be pre-launched online on March 14. Syncing with Japan’s cherry blossom season, the collection will arrive in stores worldwide on March 21.
