Millie Bobby Brown Seemingly Hits Back at Those Age-Shaming Her

On Thursday, Millie Bobby Brown took a subtle approach to confronting her critics without choosing to address them directly – because a British Vogue article did it for her. In a poised move, the star took to Instagram to re-share the article discussing online scrutiny over her new look at “The Electric State” premiere. Though the actor did not explicitly take a jab at the naysayers, her subtle move hit back at those age-shaming her.

The British Vogue recently published an article titled “No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks,” following online discussion on the actor’s new look at Netflix’s “The Electric State” premiere on Monday. After its publishing on February 27, the British actor swiftly re-shared it on her Instagram story. She captioned “thank you” while tagging British Vogue, suggesting that her decision to spotlight the issue was her way of getting back at the critics.

At the premiere, Brown stunned netizens in her metallic Annie’s Ibiza gown and a soft hair updo. Though many praised the new look, critics flooded social media to troll her with ageist and hateful remarks. Per critics, she looked “too old” for her age, with some going as far as suggesting “she looked 40,” as the Vogue article noted. The piece also highlighted cynics ranging from those surprised at the actor’s real age to those who outright trolled her.

Despite being a critically acclaimed actor, Brown has been at the helm of hateful rhetoric. Haters know no bounds while scrutinizing her fashion choices and personal life. However, the actor has handled criticism gracefully despite being a young face in the entertainment business. Besides, her quiet confrontation against the ageists and trolls criticizing her spoke volumes about her confidence and class.

The British Vogue article stated, “Millie Bobby Brown is an award-winning actor with several blockbuster roles under her belt. We should be applauding [her] achievements…not cruelly dissecting her appearance.“ By sharing the article, Brown shifted the narrative to her talent and achievements instead of giving in to society’s misogynistic obsession with scrutinizing young women and setting impossible beauty standards.
