Kyle Richards’ empty nest era may be on the horizon. And it looks like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star may have big plans about what she plans to do when her youngest daughter Portia Umansky moves out.
Kyle has been considering the next chapter of her life as her youngest daughter, Portia, prepares for college. Kyle shares Portia with her estranged spouse, Mauricio Umansky along with two other daughters, Alexia Umansky and Sophia Umansky. She also has an eldest daughter from a previous marriage.
Despite Kyle and Mau announcing their separation in 2023, they maintain a close relationship to support and co-parent their daughters.
A new adventure for Kyle Richards is ahead and it should be “interesting”
Recently Kyle shared her thoughts about her future as Portia prepares for college. She thinks it’s going to be “interesting” as having an empty nest will give her more freedom to live wherever she wants and travel any time.
“Once Portia leaves home, I don’t see myself as someone who is going to live in one spot,” she said on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show. “I feel like I’m always going to be in Aspen, LA, somewhere else. I don’t know. It feels like at that point, I can do what I want with my life.”
She clarified, “I don’t have to stay in one place. I don’t know, maybe I’ll live on a farm. I’ll live on a farm, I’ll live in Aspen, I’ll live in La Quinta. I’ll just kind of bop around.”
Viewers already got a taste of Kyle considering moving out of their home. As the girls leave, it’ll be too big for just her. And although she and Mau aren’t rushing to a divorce, they have considered selling the family home.
Freedom is a new and welcome concept for Kyle. She became a mom at 19 and has spent most of her life “doing everything for everyone else.” But she predicts this will finally change once Portia becomes an adult and is more independent.
“When Portia goes to college, it’s going to be quite an adjustment,” she admitted. “I won’t have to think about, ‘Oh, I have to be home for this.’ Or ‘I can’t go away because of this.’” She added that currently her schedule is still built around Portia’s schedule and thinks it will be interesting to all of sudden have the freedom to do what she wants when college starts.
