I can’t say I disagree with Janelle Brown’s sentiment about love. After having to watch her two-decade marriage to Kody Brown play out on Sister Wives, I think the mother of six had earned a reprieve from Cupid’s arrows. For years, Janelle came across as a sensible wife. She was good with money, didn’t play favorites, and seemed to hold a genuine affection for Kody. But when he started to turn on her, Janelle knew her time was up. Instead of choosing to stick it out for better or for worse, the polygamous wife decided to protect her peace and start anew.
Janelle Brown isn’t looking for love
During a recent podcast, the Sister Wives star revealed that she hadn’t been looking for love. And she wasn’t about to settle for another drama king like Kody. She told Kate Hudson, “My marriage is over. I don’t know what I’m gonna do,” she confessed. “I’m not really interested in getting married again or even really dating at this stage. So I’m not even thinking about, like, ‘Oh, what do I need to do?’ Because I’m just like, I am over it.” The honesty really resonated with listeners who felt Janelle was just trying to get her head back above water after her divorce.
As the conversation continued, Janelle quipped, “I am done. I love my single life.” Being single has allowed Janelle to move to North Carolina to be closer to her daughter and start a new business. A family farm. As for romantic endeavors, she shared, “If something presents itself in the future, then I’ll consider what I need to do.” Janelle has been through two divorces in her life. She was married to Meri Brown’s brother, Adam Barber, until 1990.
Janelle Brown talks about her marital sex life
According to Janelle, the family chose to keep their sex lives private out of respect for their individual marriages. She joked, “You’re not comparing notes. Everybody’s relationship is very separate.” The revelation was wild to listeners. Janelle added, “Boundaries. You know what I mean? I didn’t feel like that was my business, and I didn’t feel like it would be helpful to know. So I didn’t really care.” However, just because they didn’t swap sex stories doesn’t mean the women didn’t b*tch about Kody.
Janelle’s mindset is freeing, and fans are applauding her ability to move on. In the mid-season trailer, Janelle was shown talking about her dating life. She noted, “I promise you, I am not asexual. I promise you. I definitely don’t want someone who is such a prima donna like Kody is.” Janelle sure had her work cut out for her when she was married to Kody. And while she supported him she wouldn’t get the same trait in return. So, Janelle’s wanting to stay single makes a lot of sense. She has no desire to answer to a partner when all she wants to do is go on adventure after adventure.
Kody Brown thought Janelle Brown would stick it out
During a recent Sister Wives episode, Kody revealed that he always thought he and Janelle would stand the test of time. He told TLC cameras, “I kind of look at Meri still as a friend, and I’m sure both of us will mutually get back to that place. I hope that Meri and I will just be friends. I hear about Christine falling in love and getting married and stuff like that. Well, good on Christine,” Kody confessed. “Janelle was a different story. I always felt like Janelle, and I could have worked it out.” But Janelle was not on the same page for a while.
During her Sister Wives scene, she shared that she was moving and looking forward to a fresh start. She packed up a moving van with Christine Brown and started the long drive to North Carolina. She lamented, “We’re going to get this land, and I will be building a house. I’m leaving the place I’ve always lived. I’m leaving it all behind. There’s no other plan. This has to work.” March 5th will mark one year since Janelle and Kody separated, so for Janelle, it is a pivotal moment in her life and the perfect time for new beginnings.
Sister Wives is available to stream on TLC.
