If the first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem, Jax Taylor just took a huge leap.
During an eye-opening conversation with The Valley producer Alex Baskin, Jax explained that his stay in rehab last year was to help him combat cocaine addiction. Now, he’s approaching a big milestone in his sobriety.
Jax Taylor’s cocaine addiction led him to rehab
Jax recently appeared on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, where he detailed how his substance abuse issues have plagued him for over two decades. In his conversation with Alex, who serves as the executive producer of both Vanderpump Rules and The Valley, he reflected on the changes he’s made in his life.
“I have substance issues — primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud,” he confessed. “I’ve been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I’m 45. There was times where I would stop doing it, but then there were times where I’d go heavy on it.”
According to Jax, his 2024 divorce from Brittany Cartwright exacerbated the problem. He called the last year the “hardest” of his life. The stress caused him to lose control, and his reliance on cocaine got worse.
“I’m going through a divorce right now, which is extremely difficult,” Jax explained. “When Brittany and I separated, that’s when the addiction got worse. I’ve been doing it for a long time but the addiction got worse during my divorce and during my separation. I literally lost control. I hit rock bottom and I had to go to rehab.”
Jax’s cocaine use also went hand-in-hand with drinking. Therefore, he told Alex that he’s completely sober, and he just achieved the longest streak without alcohol since he was 21. It’s an impressive feat, and we look forward to seeing what’s next for Jax in this journey.
“I’m proud to say I’m 82, 83 days sober right now,” Jax proudly declared.
“I gotta say, it feels really, really good,” he added. “But, again, I just want to let people know, like, this is a really, really tough disease, and it’s a really tough sickness.”
The Valley is streaming on Peacock.
