The Traitors Producer Addresses Claim Danielle Reyes Told Britney Haynes She Was a Traitor

When Britney Haynes got the invitation to join Danielle Reyes as a Traitor, it seemed like a no-brainer. Getting murdered was the other option, so obviously, she joined the dark side. However, a new theory suggests that some behind-the-scenes shenanigans may have played a part in all of this, and the producers of The Traitors are trying to shut down the rumors.

After Carolyn Wiger’s shocking banishment in Season 3, Episode 9, she did an interview and theorized that Danielle may have broken the rules. She believes that Danielle told Britney she was a Traitor, which set the stage for them to end up on the same side of the game during Episode 10.

“I felt like when [Britney] was getting closer to [Danielle], despite all this stuff that I was telling her, I’m like, she knows she’s a Traitor,” Carolyn said in an interview with Men’s Journal.

She continued, “I a hundred percent in my head was like, ‘She knows she’s a traitor.’ Did they make a promise that she’s going to bring her into the turret? That’s what I thought. And that’s all I could think of is she knows and she’s getting brought in.”

Fast forward a few days, and the executive producers spoke to Variety and directly shut down Carolyn’s claims. Sam Rees-Jones and Mike Cotton told the outlet there wasn’t any truth to it. According to them, nothing happens in that castle without them knowing it.

Mike said, “I find that theory mad, if I’m honest. We listen to absolutely everything that happens in the castle. We’re with them 24/7, they’re either filming or in their rooms.”

With that in mind, Mike added that there was “never a moment” when Danielle revealed her identity to anyone in the castle. Not only would it be a breach of the show’s rules, but he said it would also be bad gameplay.

He added, “They sign a lot of paperwork, and the Traitors sign their own oath and agreement with us. There’s lots of things like that, but there was never a moment that we heard when anyone revealed their identity and honestly, it wouldn’t make any sense.”

The Traitors is streaming on Peacock. The Season 3 finale airs on March 7 at 9/8c.
