Jennifer Tilly was a star in her own right before she joined the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She is a well-known actor and professional poker player. Having earned millions from her roles, she is now living a life most would only dream of. She brings a sense of whimsy to the 90210. And her humor is a much-needed reprieve from the constant bickering. Jennifer is clearly an asset to the franchise and should be thought of as a full-time diamond contender.
Jennifer Tilly is cool
To paraphrase another Real Housewives icon, Jennifer is all about being cool, never once acting “uncool” in front of Bravo cameras. The fact that Jennifer has yet to mention her incredible voice-over career on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills speaks volumes to me. She doesn’t feel the need to let her money speak for her and is happy to let viewers and fellow cast members take the time to get to know her. I mean, who else is cool enough to note that they have a Malibu house that is inhabited by a ghost who “doesn’t like us.”
Jennifer can also maneuver in a male-dominated field as if she were taking a simple walk. I’ve been watching Jennifer’s card-gaming for years, and she plays circles around these men. I can’t help but wonder if she is the kind of woman the other RHOBH housewives wish they could be. She’s adorably quirky but also chic. And she never has to throw her designer goods in another’s face. Jennifer is simply there, existing with her exclusive Louis Vuitton boat bag. What I like most about Jennifer is that she is unbothered by the drama and is there to have a good time.
Jennifer Tilly has comedic timing
Even though her good friend Sutton Stracke has been giving fans snippets of Jennifer over the years, fans are finally able to see what makes the actor such an asset. Her comedic timing and humor just give extra depth to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. And honestly, her quips were needed especially in a season that was so tense. Everywhere you turned, you had women arguing or divorcing. But Jennifer kept things light when she could and that was appreciated. Lest we forget her ode to “mems,” which everyone else knows as memes.
During the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, Jennifer took it upon herself to mock and impersonate Dorit Kemsley’s questionable accent. Dorit’s elocution has been questioned ever since she joined the show. Jennifer said, “So we’re in the pre-cocktail before dinner situation, and she goes, ‘Jennifer, I believe there’s an elephant in the room. I have to address it at dinner tonight.’ And I go, ‘Yes, Dorit, you should clear the air.’ And she goes, ‘Yes, I have to address the elephant in the room,’” Jennifer said. The impersonation was a mix between British and Southern but it cracked fans up. It’s nice that, unlike some of her co-stars, Jennifer doesn’t take herself too seriously.
Jennifer Tilly has Kathy Hilton’s stamp of approval
Jennifer’s energy is infectious, so when rumors spread that the cast wanted her axed, it just didn’t make sense. Jennifer has made sure to keep viewers entertained. As my Reality Tea coworker so perfectly noted, “In one episode alone, she packed holy water for a trip, displayed her hotel room to look like a store, and roasted Kathy Hilton’s party games.” So I can’t imagine that Jennifer is the problem amongst the group of friends. In an attempt to show solidarity, Kathy spoke out in the Instagram comments. She wrote, “I have never heard any of our girls club say an unkind word about.”
And let’s be honest if Kathy likes you, you’re probably in Bravo’s good graces. Not that Jennifer needs it. She stands on her own two feet and is easily the best new edition to the franchise since Kathy. Jennifer is perfectly content dodging the shrapnel and keeping her martini in hand, and she doesn’t need to get her hands dirty. Season 14 has been made better, thanks to Jennifer. And I hope we see more of her in Season 15.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is available to stream on Peacock.
