Hannah Berner has been in hot water since an Oscars interview with Megan Thee Stallion went viral for being a microaggression. Hannah and Summer House star Paige DeSorbo hosted the Vanity Fair afterparty for the Oscars 2025. However, Hannah’s failed attempt at fanning over the rapper has left people questioning how the duo landed the hosting gig in the first place.
In case you missed it, Hannah decided to tell Meg that she listens to her music when she wants to “fight someone.” You don’t have to be a super Megan Thee Stallion fan to realize why this statement is problematic. The A-list rapper shrugged off Hannah’s comments, but fans weren’t letting her get away with the microaggression that easily.

Following the Oscars 2025 backlash, Hannah released a statement. “Interviewing Megan Thee Stallion was a dream of mine. I love her music and it’s my go to whenever I need to boost my confidence before a show,” Hannah’s Instagram Story began. We failed to mention that Paige and Hannah spent the entire time talking over Megan rather than really interviewing her. The added context feels necessary as we analyze Hannah’s statement.
Hannah continued, “Looking back at the interview, I wish I used any other word except ‘fight’ to describe how her songs impact me.” Megan Thee Stallion fans refer to themselves as the Hotties. It’s kind of a give-in that her music promotes self-confidence and nothing near violence. Apparently, that wasn’t crystal clear to Hannah.
Ultimately, Hannah ended her statement with an apology. “It was a careless choice of words and though there was no ill intent, I recognize and acknowledge that what I said has a deeper meaning and I am so sorry to Megan. I appreciate everyone who brought this to my attention,” she said. Yikes.
