Jax Taylor and his ex, Brittany Cartwright, recently stunned the Bravosphere when both opened up about The Valley star’s cocaine addiction. For years, some fans just thought Jax had an issue with drinking, but his demons went way deeper than that. They involved a problem with coke, that led to rehab. Here’s everything we know.

Jax Taylor admitted he had an addiction to drugs, specifically cocaine

Earlier this week, Jax opened up about his drug addiction. The 45-year-old told executive producer Alex Baskin on Bravo’s Hot Mic he had been sober for 83 days now. Adding he had “substance issues — primarily with cocaine” for the last 20 years. Jax shared, “People ask you, ‘Do you have an alcohol problem too?’ I don’t necessarily think I have an alcohol problem but the two go hand in hand,” Taylor said. “I can’t do cocaine without drinking. So I just gave up both. Brittany opened up to People, sharing, “I’m glad that he finally admitted to what was really going on.”

Jax’s ex Brittany added, “For the first time, I can speak openly about the extent of trauma he’s instilled on our family over the years. I’ve tried desperately to help him without success. I pray that one day he completely knocks this addiction, but I’m skeptical. His behaviors are still alarming and his treatment plan seems to be the bare minimum.” She continued, “I’m trying to navigate this as best as I can for my son and I, but every day is still a challenge and very difficult. Jax has caused an enormous amount of damage, and I have very little trust in him at this point. My only hope is that one day, he will be a better person for his son.”

Brittany Cartwright took to social media to react to Jax Taylor’s coke confession

Brittany has stayed quiet for most of her time with Jax. She has been a true ride-or-die for the Vanderpump Rules OG. However, after Jax’s revelation about his addiction, the mother of one finally spoke out. Britt shared that “His addiction, unfortunately, has done irreparable damage to my son and I.” Brittany added, “I’ve spent years trying to help him. I wish more than anyone I could say how proud I am of him today but I’d be lying. His actions will speak for themselves.” She continued, “And to those asking why I stayed if I knew he had a problem all these years: You can’t help who you fell in love with.”

Brittany noted, “I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get him the help he desperately needed. Unfortunately, I was naive and believed his empty promises and his pleas to change for years.” It was “not easy to leave” for Brittany, and she said it “took everything in my power to gather the strength to walk away.” Brittany sent hope, adding, “For those that have been through similar, you get it. For those that question me that’s okay. I’m in a much better place now.”

Jax Taylor has attended rehab for his cocaine addiction

Jax’s rehab stint the first time around was short-lived. He first entered rehab for his addiction during the holiday season. Jax, who has struggled with using coke, shared, “It’s just a sickness. It’s a disease, and it’s something that I have to work on for the rest of my life, unfortunately.” And even though Jax “got a lot” from his first stint in rehab, “there was an incident” that brought about his return. The incident involved Jax’s ex, Brittany. The VPR star shared, “Brittany and I were actually on our way to a doctor’s appointment for our son, and her phone was connected to my car.”

“A man’s name came up, and it just triggered me,” revealed Jax. “I lost it. I went crazy in the car, you know, yelling. And the worst part about all of this is, and this is why I checked myself in, is that my son was in the backseat. And that’s when I knew. I’m like, ‘Sh*t, I have a problem. It’s still there.’” Jax admitted he put up a fight when entering rehab the first time. “The first time, I kind of put up a little bit of a fight. This one, I was like, ‘You’re right.’ I didn’t put up a fight. I’m like, ‘I gotta go back.’”
