On March 4, The Valley star Jax Taylor dropped a bomb that reverberated throughout the Bravo-verse.
During an interview with Bravo producer Alex Baskin, Jax confessed to working “really, really hard” on his sobriety. Admitting that “it didn’t happen the first time,” Jax disclosed that he returned to rehab a second time for cocaine and alcohol addiction.
Multiple tries at sobriety are not uncommon for addicts. Recovery is a process and doesn’t happen overnight. The fact that Jax went back for another shot at overcoming his drug and alcohol addiction is actually a very good sign. It shows that he really wants to get well, for himself and his family. “It’s a disease, and it’s something that I have to work on for the rest of my life,” Jax acknowledged.
Jax Taylor’s second rehab stint for cocaine addiction saw him leave early
The Vanderpump Rules alum told Alex that he “got a lot” from his first stay in rehab. But during their on-going divorce, he was set off by “an incident” involving his estranged wife.
“ Brittany [Cartwright] and I were actually on our way to a doctor’s appointment for our son [Cruz Cauchi], and her phone was connected to my car,” Jax recalled. “A man’s name came up, and it just triggered me.”
Jax realized afterward that his drug use the night before probably had a part in his blowup. “The next day is always the worst,” he said.
When the guy’s name came on the vehicle’s screen, “I lost it,” Jax shared. “I went crazy in the car, you know, yelling … The worst part about all of this is … my son was in the backseat. And that’s when I knew. I’m like, ‘Sh*t, I have a problem. It’s still there.’”
Realizing that his young son had seen him in that condition, Jax said he felt “utter disgust” for himself. When Brittany insisted that he needed to return to rehab for another round of treatment, he knew she was right.
“The first time, I kind of put up a little bit of a fight,” Jax said. “This [time], I was like, ‘You’re right.’ I didn’t put up a fight. I’m like, ‘I gotta go back.’”
“[But] I didn’t stay the full time,” Jax confessed. “I ended up staying 17 days, [and] I felt like, for me, that was enough. I was like, ‘You know what? Another 14 days is not gonna do anything. I know that I’m good. I’m OK.’”
Jax Taylor was in rehab during the holidays treating his drug and alcohol addiction for a second time
According to Alex, it was Brittany who reached out to get Jax the help he needed. Along with Alex, she also asked Jax’s publicist and manager for help. Calling it a “very, very dark time,” Jax consented to return to rehab even though it was the holiday season. This may explain why Brittany took Cruz to Kentucky to spend Christmas with her family. She caught some flack for that at the time.
Entering rehab for the second time reminded Jax why he needed to be there. It allowed him to “regroup,” even though he ultimately left early. By day 17, he got antsy and felt he was ready to return to his life.
“I felt like the right decision for me at the time [was] to leave right then,” the House of Villains alum said. “I wasn’t forced to be there, but I felt, myself, that I was ready to go.”
Jax told Alex that he was proud of achieving “82 or 83” days of sobriety from alcohol and cocaine.
In addition to his cocaine and alcohol addictions, Jax was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD during his stay at the mental health facility during August 2024.
The Valley is now streaming on Peacock.
