This season of Southern Hospitality has been one for the record books. Never have I seen a castmate take so much guff about their relationship. But Emmy Sharrett is still standing tall amid the rumors. No matter what anyone is saying about Will Kulp to the server, the aspiring lawyer is her knight in shining armor. And even though I personally think Emmy should take off her rose-colored glasses, I can appreciate the drama she is bringing to Season 3.
Emmy Sharrett is carrying Southern Hospitality
Emmy is in her glow-up era. The blonde is newly sober and embracing a workout regime that would give Arnold Schwarzenegger a run for his money. However, her most significant job of all is convincing everyone, including herself, that Will truly “worships the ground [she walks] on.” Her aspirations to be a MILF are sort of inspirationally challenged, if not misguided, but the heart wants what it wants. What makes Emmy so damn interesting is how she is trying her best to convince herself and others that she is the happiest she’s ever been.
But I’d argue her multiple breakdowns tell a different story. In this viewer’s opinion, Emmy is struggling just to keep her head afloat. Will has clearly checked out. His eyes often glaze over whenever she mentions the future. Yet Emmy still very much believes she will be Mrs. Will Kulp one day. Her timeline is full of holes, but she persists with the idea that she’d happily have his babies and be a stay-at-home mom. While I love the commitment to the dream, I don’t see how she doesn’t see the red flags waving around her.
Emmy Sharrett is the perfect drama queen
Emmy reminds me of this friend I used to have. She always somehow was the center of drama. The Republic server just can’t help herself, and this is what makes her storyline so juicy. Even though her mouth is telling everyone to leave her relationship alone, she can’t help but stir the pot. When Southern Hospitality first aired, Emmy was my favorite. And she still is but for very different reasons. The blonde was chill compared to the likes of Grace Lilly. And I liked how Emmy just went with the flow.
You’d only see her upset when she felt like she had to defend Will. Even though I can’t recall a time Will ever really stood up for his girlfriend. This latest season shows Emmy having breakdown after breakdown. And move over Lauren Conrad because there is a new mascara cry scene in town. Honestly, I never knew waiting for the weekly truth bombs regarding their relationship could be so much fun. But here I am, week in and week out, waiting for the moment Emmy finally connects two and two together. But she’s 25 and acting like a 25-year-old does. She has hope, and I don’t want to be the one to take her hope away. Aging and adulthood will do that soon enough.
Emmy Sharrett is on the defense
What makes Emmy such a queen is how she defends her choices so passionately. I don’t think all the blame can be put on Emmy. Her friends have claimed they have tried to talk to her, but I would argue they would rather have an excuse to talk about her. In all honesty, Will is the villain of the series. While Emmy is pouring her heart out on their romantic boat trip, Will’s mind is elsewhere. It’s probably imagining the girls he slipped into the bathroom with while Emmy is just begging to hear him call her his MILF in training. Will has no want or need to care for Emmy, and even if she is a bit on the dramatic side, she still should be treated like a queen.
Emmy really isn’t the problem here. She is sadly just going to be the scapegoat for Will’s alleged cheating. And even though Emmy is probably torn up with emotions, the girl is bringing a lot to Southern Hospitality. But even through all her tears and panic attacks, I can still empathize with Emmy. I’ve been that friend who has blindly followed her partner, choosing to believe their every word. One day Emmy will wake up from her dream world and realize she deserves way more than a loser in alumnum. But for now, I will still hail Emmy as the Queen of Southern Hospitality.
Southern Hospitality is available to stream on Peacock.
