Trigger Warning: The following material discusses domestic violence, rape, and human trafficking.
Ariana Madix has made her stance. Vanderpump Rules alum James Kennedy’s reputation was on the rise. His DJ career was soaring, and he was no longer drinking, claiming to be “California sober.” His long-term girlfriend Ally Lewber seemed to be keeping his feet on the ground, despite his growing fame.
But things started to change in December 2024. Following a Christmas party at Kathy Hilton’s home on December 10, James was arrested for domestic violence. Allegedly, he picked up Ally and threw her to the ground during a drunken argument at their home. No formal charges were filed, but Ally packed up her things and moved out. A few weeks later, she announced their breakup.
Now James has fallen further. After meeting Andrew and Tristan Tate, the podcasters facing human trafficking and rape charges in Florida, he posted a photo with them on Instagram. Not only did his friend and former castmate Ariana immediately unfollow him, but he lost 1,734 followers in a single day.
James Kennedy faced backlash for posing with the Tate Brothers
Once he learned the brothers’ backstory, James immediately deleted his post and apologized. “I regret posting a photo with the Tate brothers at an event last night,” James began his Instagram Story apology.
Explaining that he was “unfamiliar with their content and the allegations against them,” he continued, “I only knew them as podcasters that had posted a viral clip about Vanderpump. I have since educated myself and condemn their beliefs, [and] am sorry to all that I offended.”
Sadly, the damage had already been done. When Instagram user Bravobuds posted their update on James’ declining followers, one poster commented, “I am one of 1734.” And she wasn’t alone. In addition to one reply saying, “Me, too,” many responded, “I was one of them.” Others admitted they unfollowed James following the domestic violence incident.
Somewhere Rachel Leviss is saying, “I told you so.”
All episodes of Vanderpump Rules are streaming on Peacock.
