Former Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett is weighing in on Karen Huger’s prison sentence. Candiace exited RHOP after Season 8. She and her husband, Chris Bassett, welcomed their son in November 2024. Now, Candiace is sharing her thoughts about the Grande Dame’s jail time.

In December 2024, Karen was convicted of driving under the influence, along with several other charges. She entered rehab just before her sentencing. In the end, Karen received two years, with one year suspended. That means that the Grande Dame will be in prison for one year. She must also pay $2,900 in fines, and won’t be able to be behind the wheel for one year after her release. Plus, Karen also has five years of supervised release.
“I’m devastated for Karen. I’m devastated for her family,” Candiace told TMZ. “Drinking and driving is obviously and absolutely not right or good.” She added, “You know, Karen has to deal with her stuff, her bags, but what I implore all of us to remember is that everybody’s dealing with stuff.”
While Candiace hasn’t spoken to Karen since her sentencing, she is praying for her friend. In addition, Candiace feels like Karen is “taking names and kicking ass” in prison, as well as serving as an inspiration to others.
Meanwhile, RHOP star Ashley Darby stated that she “cried like a baby” when she found out about Karen’s sentence. And Gizelle Bryant had some concerns about Karen’s well-being in prison. “In all seriousness, I am concerned for her safety. Karen ain’t cut out for jail,” Gizelle previously stated. “I pray that she’s OK and that the Lord is with her.”
As for whether Karen’s future includes a RHOP return seems to be up in the air. While Real Housewives of New Jersey delayed filming until Teresa Giudice was released from “camp,” RHOP might not want to go down the same path. We should find out fairly soon when RHOP will begin filming.
