Netflix is adding a new competition show to its roster, called Million Dollar Secret, which may be the streaming service’s answer to The Traitors. Hosted by Peter Serafinowicz, the fresh series is sure to earn comparisons to Peacock’s hit competition show. Of course, now that The Traitors is on hiatus, fans will surely flock to another reality series full of mystery, strategy, and secrets. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Netflix show, including the date and time Million Dollar Secret is available to stream, ahead of its premiere.
Netflix’s Million Dollar Secret trailer
Netflix released a trailer for Million Dollar Secret ahead of the Season 1 premiere. The trailer shows off The Stag, which is Million Dollar Secret’s answer to The Traitors’ castle. The Stag is a luxurious private chateau in Canada. It sits on 44 acres of land.
Host Peter Serafinowicz, whom you may recognize from movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, narrates the trailer and explains the game. The setup seems like a fairytale, as contestants arrive at a gorgeous resort. One even says she feels like she’s in The Princess Diaries. And as the cherry on top, one contestant finds a box with a million dollars in their room. “Getting the million dollars is easy,” Peter narrates, “but how far would you go to keep it?”
The trailer hints at some outrageous challenges, such as flying to an ancient glacier to … fetch ice for Peter’s drink. And being presented with a bowl of snakes. Based on challenges, contestants are rewarded with clues that help them sus out the millionaire’s identity. The trailer also highlights the cast, with blonde beauty Sydnee, secret poker player Lynda, and savvy builder Corey appearing to be some standouts. There’s plenty of tension and fights between players as well. It’s a game of predator versus prey and, as Corey says in the trailer, contestants have to “become part of the predators.”
When is Million Dollar Secret streaming on Netflix?
Some of Netflix’s shows are available to stream all at once, while others are released in installments. Million Dollar Secret will follow the latter pattern, much like The Circle. Ahead of the new series premiere, Netflix has announced the date and time episodes will be available to stream. There will be eight episodes total in Season 1.
Episodes will premiere on Netflix on Wednesdays over three weeks. The first batch, which includes episodes 1-3, will premiere on Wednesday, March 26. Episodes 4-6 will become available to stream the following week on Wednesday, April 2. Finally, episodes 7 and 8, the penultimate episode and the Season 1 finale, will be available to stream starting Wednesday, April 9.
Each episode will feature challenges, strategies, and opportunities to sniff out the millionaire. As the host, Peter will give the millionaire a secret agenda. There will also be nightly dinners where contestants meet to try and expose the millionaire and eliminate one of their own.
Is Million Dollar Secret on Netflix like The Traitors on Peacock?
On The Traitors, host Alan Cumming selects two players as the Traitors, while the rest of the cast are Faithfuls. Throughout the season, the Traitors can recruit Faithfuls to join their side. Meanwhile, they try to hide their traitorous identity from their fellow contestants in the Scottish castle.
Million Dollar Secret has a similar gameplay but with its own pricey twist. In this game, one of the 12 contestants is made a secret millionaire. As soon as contestants arrive at the luxurious estate, one of them is gifted a box that contains a million dollars. To keep their money, they’ll have to throw contestants off their scent. If the millionaire is eliminated from the game, the money moves to a different contestant.
Another difference from Peacock’s The Traitors is the contestants’ backgrounds. On the USA edition of The Traitors, contestants are celebrities and primarily reality stars. Of course, this is different from the UK edition, although there is a Celebrity Traitors UK series coming up. On Million Dollar Secret, the contestants don’t have prior reality TV experience. Instead, their job descriptions range from a former party clown to a beverage brand CEO to a stay-at-home mom.
While Million Dollar Secret isn’t exactly like The Traitors, it should scratch the itch for fans of the Peacock series. And at least help tide them over until Season 4.
